Managing Comments

You can use comments to interact with other community members on any item. A comment is a piece of text that you can add to any type of community content. You can easily enrich your comments using the quick-formatting tools, and add any type of supported media.

Note: The example used in the scenarios below is a post to illustrate how to work with comments. Working with comments on any other item works similarly.

Adding Comments

  1. Select either of the following:

    • Under your content, click Comment or click the Write a comment... field.
    • Depending on the type of content, click the content header or the content thumbnail, and from the top bar, click Comment.

  2. Required: Enter your text.

    Press Shift + Enter to add a line break.

  3. Optional: Select some text to display the format toolbar.

    It lets you apply basic text formatting and add hyperlinks to your text. You can click Unlink to remove a link.

  4. Optional: Click to add up to twenty media to your comment.
    A new section containing the media appears.
    Tips:
    • To filter the media of the gallery by type, click any of the Picture , Video Animated Picture, 3D Model or Document icons in the top right corner of the section.
    • If the added media is a PDF file, you can annotate it using 3DPlay Web App. Click the PDF file or its thumbnail if the file is nested within a comment, In the action bar,click Annotation Commands, and start annotating your PDF. To save your annotations, on the upper-right, select Share > Share as comment.

    • While editing your comment, you can easily:
      • drop one or more local media to the Drop here section of the comment editor.
      • remove a media by selecting it and pressing the Del key.
      • paste text and images directly from the web, and images from a Microsoft Word document. The images embedded in the text become available in the Gallery when you save your content.
        Note: Images cannot be copied in an on-premises environment. Only those that are declared in the source page as standard images, that is with an IMG tag, will be pasted.
  5. Optional: In the top left corner of the section, select My Media, All Media or 3DDrive. For more information about 3DDrive, see Social and Collaborative: 3DDrive.

    By default, the media of the current community is displayed.

  6. To add an existing media, select one or more, and click Add # Media.
    The media is added to the comment editor section.
  7. To add a new media, click Upload new media and select one or more local media, or drop them from your device to the Drop here section.
    The media is added to the community, and can be selected from the media list.
  8. If you need to illustrate your comment using a web page, paste or type the link of the page of interest.
    • If the target page contains text and images, the URL is added and enriched with a preview of the targeted page.

      From the menu on the top right of the overview, you can select either of the following:
      • Toggle Image: if any, hides or displays the image of the web page.
      • Toggle Description: hides or displays the short description of the page.

      Click to remove the page overview and keep the URL only.

    • If the link is a Youtube video, the video player will be embedded within the content. Once published, the video will play directly within the content.
  9. Press Enter.

The comment is added.

Note: You can also comment any media by clicking its header, or playing it while used, for example, within a post, to open it on the lightweight player,then click Comment.

Click Reply to answer someone's comment or reply.

Note: Whenever an idea status is modified an automatically-generated comment is added to the list of comments. This type of comment cannot be replied.
Comments are structured in two levels, the comment itself and the replies provided to it. If there are more than one reply to a comment, you can click Show replies to display the complete list. Click Hide replies to hide the list. If you reply to someone's reply, the @username of the person to whom you reply is automatically added to your own reply.

Editing Comments

  1. In the top-right corner of a comment, select Open > Edit.
  2. Read step two onwards of the scenario above.
  3. Press Enter.

Your modifications are published.

Deleting Comments

  1. In the top-right corner of a comment, select Open > Delete.
  2. Click OK to validate.

Your comment is deleted.
