Adding and Editing Annotations

You can add annotations to any model, object, or document. These annotations are stored in a review, and located in a folder (from a project or a bookmark, for example).

Annotations are displayed:

  • On the review, in a table view
  • On your model, in the graphical view (if the review is added to context)

Add an Annotation

You must add a review to context to allow the creation of annotations.

  1. From a folder, select a review.
  2. From the navigation bar, click Add to Context .
    The icon of the context object appears in the navigation bar.
  3. Optional: Navigate to select an object to be commented.

    Tip: You can multiselect objects to create one annotation linked with each of them.

  4. From the work area, click Edit Review .
  5. From the work area, click Create Message .
    A message box appears.
    Note: If you have selected an object from the traceability view, the Create Message command sends you to the object itself.
  6. Type your message.
  7. Optional: If needed, use the edit commands.

  8. Click OK .
    • The commented object is highlighted in red.
    • The message is visible:
      • In the review
      • In the 2D preview of the selected element, if the review is in context.

Edit a Message

If the review is added to context, its annotations are displayed in the graphical view of the model. You can edit a message from the graphical view, or from the review.

Note: From the traceability view, a small annotation icon is displayed. Click this icon to open the object and see the annotation.

  1. Select a message.

  2. From the context bar, select one of these commands:
    OptionDescription
    Edit Activates the edit mode.

    By default, this command is active.

    Delete Deletes the selected message.
    Create Link Links this message with an additional object.

    Drag this command and drop it onto the object to be linked.
  3. From the message box in edit mode, select one of these commands:
    OptionDescription
    Edit Modifies the content of this message.
    Reply Creates an additional message below the selected one.

Add a Symbol to an Annotation

If a symbol library is associated with a review, you can add these symbols on the annotated model to illustrate your message.

  1. Add the review to context and open the annotated model.
  2. Select an annotation. The symbols appear.

    In addition to your customized symbols, default symbols are proposed (icons with a grey background).
    Tip: If you do not have customized symbols and only need the default symbols, you can create an empty .zip file and attach it to the folder. This empty .zip file is considered as a library, and the default symbols are proposed in your review.
  3. Drag a symbol icon to the desired location.
