Comparing Elements in a Diff

You can compare two models, documents or any elements in a diff table.

This task shows you how to:

Create a Diff

Before you begin: Diff tables are created in a folder.

Create a folder in one of the following tree categories:

  • Bookmark: in an existing bookmark workspace
  • Project: in an existing project
For more information, see Creating Traceability Objects in Folders.

  1. Select a folder.
  2. From the properties area, click Create Diff and then:
    1. Enter a name.
    2. Optional: Change the policy. By default, a policy is selected.

Compare Elements in a Diff

  1. Open a diff.
    An empty table appears.
  2. To compute the differences between two elements:
    1. From the tree, drag an element and drop it to the first column.
    2. Drag an element to be compared with the first element, and drop it to the second column.

    3. Click Refresh to compute the differences.
  3. Click the arrows to expand the structure.

Tip: Press Shift and click a closed node to expand all the node structure (including sublevels).

  4. Compare the elements using the color code:
    Modification TypeDescription
Unchanged (white) The content is identical in the two elements.
Modified (blue) The content is identical but some data is different in the two elements.
Added (green) There is no corresponding content in the first element.
Removed (grey) There is no corresponding content in the second element.

Tip: Click Hide Unchanged Elements to display only the differences between the two compared elements.

  5. To filter the predicates used for comparison:
    1. Click Edit to activate the predicate edit mode.
    2. Click a predicate to remove (strike through) it or add it to the comparison computation.

    3. Click Edit to deactivate the edit mode.
In the diff table, the differences are computed with the modified predicates.
