Saving Designs in 3DEXPERIENCE

You can save Inventor parts, assemblies, and drawings to the 3DEXPERIENCE platform.

Before you begin: If you are working on virtual machine, define a value of the CATVisNoGraphicalAPI as 1 for successful creation of CATIA Graphical Representations.

Restart the system after defining the Set Environment Variable.

  1. Create a part in Inventor.
  2. Open the My Session dashboard of 3DEXPERIENCE.
  3. In My Session, click Actions and then Save Active Window .
A 3DEXPERIENCE- 3DEXPERIENCE Save dialog box appears. For more information, see Save Dialog Box.
    Notes:
    • You can view the list of designs you are saving in the Name attribute of the dialog box.
    • The dialog box displays the design and the subcomponents of the design.
  4. Click OK.
A 3DEXPERIENCE- Progress Status bar appears.

The designs are saved to 3DEXPERIENCE.

The 3DEXPERIENCE- Save dialog box consists of below attributes:

Column name Description
Lock or Unlock Displays the state of the design, if it is locked or unlocked.
Action Displays if the part is to be included or excluded.
Reservation owner Displays the name of the user who has locked the corresponding design in 3DEXPERIENCE
Description Description of the part or the assembly
Status Displays the status of the object in 3DEXPERIENCE that is new, existing, modified etc.
Revision Revision from 3DEXPERIENCE server that is open in Inventor.
Type Displays the type of corresponding design that is product or design.
Maturity State Lifecycle state of the family, for example: In Work Frozen.
Name Names of the designs you are saving to 3DEXPERIENCE

When you right-click an object in the 3DEXPERIENCE- Save dialog box, you can view below options:

Option Description
Exclude Excludes the object from saving.
Include Includes the object in saving.
Revise Creates a revision of the object.
Edit Derived Output Selection Generates and saves derived output.
Notes:

If an Inventor drawing is connected to Inventor Physical Product from Product Structure Editor widget then to avoid duplication of the VPMRepInstance link:

  • Manually detach the Drawing from the Physical Product before inserting the file from the Physical Product into the same drawing from Inventor before saving back.
  • Delete a product structure relationship in the 3DEXPERIENCE to specify the physical id of the relationship and mark it as deleted.
Important:
  • When you save a design in 3DEXPERIENCE, the design is also saved in your machine.
  • You cannot save the designs that consist of external files such as xls, txt, doc etc.
  • Do not include the special characters such as <, >, *, :, " ,?, |, (, or / in the name of the design.
  • You cannot save part families of the object, Inventor presentations, i-parts, or i-assemblies to 3DEXPERIENCE.
  • You cannot save a part without including its modification. You need to either save the part with the same revision or revise the part.
Note: Disable Show Only Modified flag before saving the part with the same revision or revising the part.
Note: With japanese OS, if the file we want to save is inside a directory/folder that contains japanese character then the following setting needs to be done for proper saving and creation of cgr file.

Control panel > Clock and Region > Region > Administrative > Change system locale and check "Beta: Use Unicode UTF-8 for worldwide language support"
