Product Structure Design File-based Design Import

File-based Design Import (FBDI) enables content migration from V5 to 3DEXPERIENCE.

V5 to 3DEXPERIENCE Data Import Table

The following table describes import correspondences between V5 file-based data and 3DEXPERIENCE content.

The statuses for import results are fully imported, partially imported, and not imported (-).”

FlexibilityFlexibility

Partially imported

In V5, the flexibility status is defined on a product instance. Defining that a product instance is flexible does not affect the other instances of this product.

In 3DEXPERIENCE, the flexibility status is defined on the original product. Defining flexibility on a product means that all its instances are flexible. This product becomes a PMR (Positional Mechanical Reference).

Two consequences for the import:

  • V5 flexible product instances can have overloaded positions in 3DEXPERIENCE, different from the one defined on the other imported product instances.
  • The imported original product is not necessarily defined as PMR.

Activation modes of instancesActivation modes of instances

Fully imported

The V5 activate/deactivate status of product instances is imported in 3DEXPERIENCE as an effectivity on the corresponding product instances.

For V5 deactivated instance, its corresponding instance is defined with an effectivity "FALSE" (set on the ActivateDeactivate variability space). For V5 activated instance, no effectivity is created.

After an interactive FBDI, the product structure shown on screen reflects the product configuration with activated instances only (as the Activate/Deactivate 3DEXPERIENCE standard behavior). Be careful, even if deactivated instances are not shown in 3D and in the tree, these V5 data are correctly imported and will be saved with other data. For more information about effectivity, see the VPM Configured Environment User's Guide.

Considerations

You should take the following considerations into account:

Product Structure Link Isolation

When a link is broken and the Isolate links on missing document option is checked, the link is usually imported but isolated.

More precisely:

  • Reference links: These broken links are imported and isolated.
  • Contextual links: These broken links are imported and isolated.
  • Instance/reference links: If the pointed document is missing, the link is not imported.
Product Structure and FBDI Update Mode

Some specific behaviors are applicable to the following product structure information:

  • Flexibility: Importing a document for the second time can modify the repositionable status of instances (if these instances are repositionable). As a repositionable instance can have its status defined in 3DEXPERIENCE or from an import in another context, it is not possible to remove this status in FBDI Update mode.
  • Configuration: You can configure a 3DEXPERIENCE assembly imported with FBDI. When updating the model using FBDI, the V5 definition of configuration is imported in the 3DEXPERIENCE model and the 3DEXPERIENCE modifications are lost.
  • PGP (product graphic properties of references and instances):

You can modify the PGP on a 3DEXPERIENCE assembly imported with FBDI. When updating the model using FBDI, the V5 PGP are imported in the 3DEXPERIENCE model and the 3DEXPERIENCE modifications are lost.

If you apply new PGP in the 3DEXPERIENCE model, updating the model with FBDI will not delete this 3DEXPERIENCE PGP.

If you delete PGP in the 3DEXPERIENCE model, updating the model with FBDI will recreate in 3DEXPERIENCE PGP.
