About Modifying a Position

You can manage the position of an instance using various commands.

You can:

  • Set a new position for an instance with respect to its rigid parent reference or to the root product when flexibility is involved using the Robot. For more information about the Robot, see 3DEXPERIENCE Native Apps: Using the Robot.
  • Reset the instance position using the Reset instance position to identity command in the Position tab of the Properties dialog box.

In the Instance position area, different capabilities are available depending on whether the parent reference of the selected component is rigid or flexible.

    • For a rigid parent reference, the Reset instance position to identity command is available.
    • For a flexible parent reference, the Reset occurrence position with first instance position and Apply occurrence position to first instance commands are available.

Note: By creating an assembly with a flexible parent reference, you can apply occurrence position to the first instance. However, position of instance cannot be set or reset if the parent reference of some instances is rigid and that of some other instances is flexible. Position setting capabilities are available for mono-selection as well as multiselection of instances.

The availability of position commands also depends on the selected component's property.

For more information about position and flexibility, see PLM Components Reference Guide: Product Position Mechanism.
