About Computed Weight

The volume of any given part can be computed using basic mechanical data (3D geometry, material - such as steel or plastic, and surface material - such as paint or resin), or composites, piping, tubing, insulation, electrical, ship detail design or sheet metal data from other apps.

Important:
  • When no material has been assigned to a part, the default density used is the one defined in the options.
  • In the case of Sheet Metal parts, they must be folded prior to running the computation.

Compute the Weight of a Part

The weight of a part is the volume multiplied by the density associated to the material and surface material (if any) assigned to the part.

Important: To compute the weight of a given leaf product, only the first aggregated representation defined as 'Design' will be taken into account, the other representations, if any, will be ignored.

Compute the Weight of an Assembly

The weight of an assembly is computed based on the weight of the parts which make up the assembly.

Important:
  • When dealing with an assembly, only the children parts are taken into account for weight computation that is, if an assembly product contains children parts AND aggregated representations, these aggregated representations will be ignored for weight computation.
  • Weights computed on assembly nodes do not persist in database. The following information persists in database:
    • For computed weights, leaf products information.
    • For declared weights, leaf products and intermediate nodes information.

It is therefore recommended that you run a computation on the fly on the assembly to consolidate the values after opening the model containing the saved values.
