Supported PLM Objects and 2D and 3D File Formats

In 3DPlay, you can open a number of PLM objects, and a variety of 2D and 3D files.

There are differences in the file formats supported, depending on whether your environment is on the cloud or on premises.

Supported PLM Objects

Whether you are on the cloud or on premises, in 3DPlay, you can open PLM objects of the types listed below, from 3DSpace.

Note: When imported to 3DSpace, PLM objects undergo an indexing process with CGR streams. You must wait until this process is fully completed before opening them in 3DPlay.
Important: On premises, the 3DExplore media must be installed before you use 3DSpace. Miscellaneous Information About Supported Import Formats

For some formats, limitations may apply.

CityGML Files

The following limitations apply to CityGML files:

  • CityGML scene graph nodes that are not supported by libcitygml may not be visualized.
  • In a CityGML file, there can be multiple themes for visualization translated as materials: in 3DPlay, only the first theme in a given CityGML file is visualized as material and texture.
  • Unicode file names for CityGML and texture images are not supported.
  • For GML files, only the current folder and its children are taken into account. It is impossible to retrieve sibling dependencies. The following table provides examples of what is supported or not (in the examples, house.gml has a link to window.tiff):

DGN files

In DGN files, only 3D geometry is supported with 3DPlay. 2D geometry is not supported.

DGN and FBX Files

DGN and FBX files can link to children files (textures, or assemblies): this is not supported with 3DPlay for these two file formats. Consequently, when a DGN or FBX file has children files (whether textures or assemblies), these children files will not be loaded.

PLM Drawing Type

In order to be supported with 3DPlay, PLM Drawings must respect the following conditions:

  • They must have been originally created with the 3DEXPERIENCE native client, and then saved to the 3DEXPERIENCE Platform using the Save function of the native client, using R2020x or later.
  • Or they must have been originally created with Autocad, CATIA V5-6, Inventor, or SOLIDWORKS, and then saved to the 3DEXPERIENCE Platform using the corresponding Collaborative Design Save function for R2020x or later.

SOLIDWORKS Files

SOLIDWORKS files of the EASM, EPRT, SLDAM, and SLDRT types can have multiple configurations (that is, the same geometry can be present in different configurations in one same file). Only the active configuration is taken into account in 3DPlay.

For EASM and EPRT files, only files generated with SOLIDWORKS Desktop 2019 and later, and SOLIDWORKS eDrawings Viewer 2019 and later, are supported.

The following SOLIDWORKS eDrawings file formats are not supported: easmx, edrwx, and eprtx.

PMI and FT&A Annotations

As a general rule, PMI (Product Manufacturing Information) in STEP files loaded from 3DDrive is now supported with 3DPlay.

As an exception, PMI in STEP AP242 Tesselated Monolythic files stored on premises is not supported with 3DPlay Web App, but it is supported with 3DPlay for Windows 10. For more information, see Social and Collaborative: 3DEXPERIENCE Open: Converters: Format Converters.

FT&A annotations are supported with 3DPlay in the following type of content:

  • CATPart files loaded from 3DDrive
  • physical products loaded from 3DSpace
  • 3D XML files both on the cloud (from 3DDrive) and on premises

REVIT Files

Transparency, textures, wire and mesh not supported for REVIT files.

TXT Files

Files in the TXT format are supported provided they are encoded with UTF-8.
