About Release Phases for Configured Parts

A configured part in the Development release phase behaves like a part in Work-in-Progress (WIP) mode. The part is not used in production and can be modified with or without a change object attached to it.

Also, select Change Required if a change object is to be applied to the part. Under change-required, you can select whether the part is to be in the Development or Production release phase. Without change-required, you cannot assign the Production phase to the part while creating it (Development phase is required and set for you).

A configured part in the Production release phase behaves like a part in non-WIP mode. This means that the part may be used on production (once approved) and cannot be modified without an attached change object.

You can assign the production release phase when you create the part. Since production parts require change-required, the Change Required box is selected for you.

Using the Set to Production command, you can move either a part or its BOM from the Development release phase into the Production release phase. This command is on the main toolbar in the part properties tab and on the Engineering BOM category.

• A configured part must be in the In Work state and in the Development Release Phase to be moved to production.
• A configured part must be assigned to and managed by a change order to be moved to production.
• To be moved from Development to Production, a configured part cannot have a child part in the Development release phase.
• When you move a configured structure to Production, EC child parts in the structure (if any) will not be moved. You must move the EC Part to Production first.
• Feature Option Effectivity can be defined only for configured parts that are in the Development Release Phase and are not under change-required. Feature Option Effectivity cannot be applied to a change object. After a part that has feature option effectivity defined is moved from Development to Production phase, you cannot modify the part BOM.
