Using Copy From in a Configured BOM

BOMs can be copied from one part to another to create a similar BOM. You can use the Copy From command with configured parts in a BOM.

  • Since PUE is based on a product connected to a number of units, a PUE-enabled change process must have a product context established before making changes. If the context part is associated with only one product, the context Product filter value is automatically populated.
  • Copy From is supported in the development mode without using a PUE ECO. Parts can be selected from a source Configured BOM that is . Current Effectivity must be entered manually.
Note: Configured parts cannot be duplicated.

Before you begin:

Access edit mode for a configured bill of materials. See Editing a Configured Part Bill of Materials.

  1. Click the check box next to the BOM component where you want to copy parts and click Actions > Copy From from the page toolbar. The Search page opens, showing all released top-level parts.
  2. Search for and select a top-level part from which you want to copy the BOM structure and click Submit.

The Select EBOM Parts page opens.

  3. Select the part(s) that you want to copy to the BOM and click Submit.

A validation ensures that no child parts are selected without the parent assembly. An error occurs if you select an invalid structure.

  4. Click Submit.

All levels of the BOM are copied for the selected parts unless a choice is explicitly made for single component within a level.

    • If you selected only the parent part, all the children (and all levels) are copied to the target part.
    • If only selected children of the parent were selected, only those selected children (and all their levels) are copied.

Once you copy them, the selected components appear in the BOM in edit mode and you can make modifications to attributes such as Find Number, Reference Designator, and Quantity.
