About Manufacturing Definition Items

Products in a product structure are typically in the engineering definition and in the manufacturing definition. However, you can select items to exclude from the manufacturing definition.

Excluding Objects from a Manufacturing Definition

Excluded objects remain in the product structure and in the engineering definition but are ignored for manufacturing. After designating objects to exclude, you can hide the excluded objects from appearing in the product structure.

Note: If you change between including and excluding an instance of an object, all other instances of the object also change.

When you hide excluded objects:

  • If an included object is a child of an excluded object, the child remains visible.
  • If an excluded item is a leaf object, the nearest included parent appears as a leaf in flattened view.
  • Objects that have been excluded from the product structure BOM are hidden even if included in the manufacturing definition.

You can use either the Advanced Filter or the Manufacturable/Procurable command to hide excluded objects. However, the two commands behave differently. To hide excluded objects using the Advanced Filter, the object and its ancestors (except the root) must also be excluded. Using the Manufacturable/Procurable command, only the object itself must be excluded.
