Applying Materials to a Product

You can apply core and covering materials to products. By applying a material, you are indicating that the product comprises that material. For example, when you apply a core material of aluminum to a bicycle frame, you are indicating that the frame is made of aluminum. If you apply red paint as a covering material, then the frame is painted red. This is opposed to adding a quantity of material to the product structure. For information on adding a quantity of material, see Adding a Material Quantity to a Product Structure.

Notes:
  • You can apply up to one core material and one covering material to a product using Engineering Release.
  • You can apply, remove, and replace materials for products by reference, not to instances.
  • You cannot apply core materials to the root of a product structure. The product must either be a child or have no children.
