Making a Variant Optional During Product Configuration

You can make it optional that the Product Manager selects a value for a variant during product configuration if one of them is not automatically selected by a rule or by default. All variants are mandatory by default when they are created.

Before you begin: Open the model version. For more information, see Opening a Model Version.

  1. If it is not already the active tab, select the Variability tab.
  2. For the variant that you want to make mandatory, click the slider in the Mandatory column.
    The slider turns gray to indicate that it is now optional to select a variant value during product configuration.

It is no longer mandatory that the Product Manager select a variant value for this variant during product configuration if one is not automatically selected by a rule or by default.
