This section describes all of the steps required to successfully install Adapter for X-PDM.

About Installing Adapter for X-PDM

Both the Gateway Servers implement the Event Bus, which enables asynchronous bi-directional PLM data exchange between the 3DEXPERIENCE platform server and non-DS PDM or ERP systems or X-PDM server(s).

Communication between different systems involves:

  • Events conveyed by http protocol.
  • Files (metadata files in XPDMXML format and bulk data files) conveyed by FTP, SFTP or Shared Directory protocol through a File Server.

The PLM data exchanged may include un-configured Engineering structures or E-BOM structures.

During the installation process you are asked to choose the kind of exchange that will be enabled: Enable Engineering Exchanges to exchange Multi-Discipline structures or Enable E-BOM Exchanges to exchange EBOM. Adapter for X-PDM is connecting servers together, but if you select the Enable Engineering Exchanges the exchange also involve at least one additional machine: the Batch Server, which corresponds to a Native app setup.



Installation Components

Adapter for X-PDM is made of components that are deployed on each server. To achieve a complete installation you have to separately install and setup the following components in sequence:

  • Adapter for X-PDM for Engineering exchange:

    1. VXG : Gateway Server for X-PDM

    2. XPC : Adapter for X-PDM Foundation

      • For Engineering exchange : select Enable <Engineering Exchanges > option
      • For Enterprise exchange, there is no need check any options.
    3. MUX - Engineering Adapter for X-PDM Extended for Engineering Exchange or Optional Installation – Enterprise Adapter for XPDM.
    4. XWS : Gateway Server for X-PDM Connectivity

  • Adapter for X-PDM for E-BOM exchange:

    1. VXG : Gateway Server for X-PDM
    2. XPC : Adapter for X-PDM Foundation – installed with < Enable E-BOM Exchanges > option
    3. XWS : Gateway Server for X-PDM Connectivity

Note: About licensing:
  • After deploying Adapter for X-PDM for Engineering exchange the MUX license [CSV + any Hi-End Native Apps based role (for example MDG) + MUX] is required for users used to run the exchange.
  • After deploying Adapter for X-PDM for Enterprise or EBOM exchange the CSV + any Hi-End Native Apps based roles (MDG for example) license is required for the users used to run the exchange.

Import of DS legacy data without geometrical conversion can be performed with any of the following licensing combinations:

  • CSV and UE5
  • CSV and EXH
  • CSV and any rich authoring role with exchange management app like MDG.
