Standards

Standards let administrators customize the graphic properties and visibility of characteristic curves in the drawings.

Graphic properties are used to display characteristic curves in both 3D views in the Sheet Metal for Hydro-formed Partsapp and 2D generated views in the Drafting app. Graphic properties are as follows:

  • Color
  • Line Type
  • Thickness

Visibility is used to specify whether characteristic curves should be represented in 3D views in the Sheet Metal for Hydro-formed Partsapp, and projected in 2D views in the Drafting app. Characteristic curves can be projected as follows:

  • Not projected at all
  • Projected in unfolded views
  • Projected in folded views.

Important: Users can manage the visibility of characteristic curves in 3D views through settings. For more information, see Sheet Metal for Hydro-formed Parts: Display.

Who Defines the Standards?

Standards are defined by the administrator in XML (eXtensible Markup Language) files. Bear in mind that you must be logged as administrator to be able to modify standards.

Standards in Sheet Metal 3D Shape

Standards are embedded in the Sheet Metal 3D shape. Therefore, if you need to exchange 3D shapes with a third-party, the standard parameters included in it will be applied even if third-party locally uses a different standard.

This is also true for drawings: the standards of the 3D shape will be embedded in, and applied to, any drawing generated from this 3D shape, whether you or a third-party generates the drawing.

You do not need to provide the standard XML file to third-parties when exchanging 3D shapes.

Pre-defined Standard File

Administrators can customize this file to define the standards according to the company's needs.

Warning: Do not delete or rename the AerospaceSheetMetalDesign.xml file. It is used by default for all Sheet Metal for Hydro-formed Parts parts, whether new or existing.

Edition of the Standard File

The standard file can be edited using an interactive editor.

This editor provides an easy-to-use graphic interface to let you customize the parameters included in the standard file.

The interactive editor is available in Me > Preferences > Standards. For more information, see Customizing Standards for Layers and Filters.

Warning: Make sure you use the Standards editor available in Me > Preferences > Standards when modifying and customizing the XML standard file. Using other editors (such as text editors) may alter the consistency of the standard XML file, and may make it unusable.

Structure of the Standards

The AerospaceSheetmetalDesign.xml file is available in the Standard Definition dialog box, that can be accessed in Me > Preferences > Standards > General.

This file is structured as a tree. Under the Standard > Sheet Metal for Hydro-formed Parts > Characteristic Curves nodes, there are several sub-nodes:

  • Graphic Properties: enables to customize graphic properties for characteristic curves in both 3D views and 2D generated views.
  • Visibility: specifies whether characteristic curves should be generated in 2D views.
