Batch Size

Select an option to specify how batches of the formula are measured.

Note: Weight and Volume apply to the wet weight of a batch. Pieces applies to the dry weight of a batch.

Option Description

Weight

Select this option to specify the batch size by weight. Enter the batch weight, and select a unit from the list. The Volume value updates automatically. If a Piece Size is specified, the Pieces value also updates.

Weight is the default batch size measure for a new formula.

Volume

Select this option to specify the batch size by volume. Enter the batch volume, and select a unit from the list. The Weight value updates automatically. If a Piece Size is specified, the Pieces value also updates.

Note: Direct editing of the Volume field is enabled after you define a Target Specific Gravity. If a Target Specific Gravity is not defined, the Volume is tied automatically to the Weight, using a specific gravity of 1.
Note: When you select Volume, the formula grid does not show weight data.

Pieces

Select this option to specify the batch size by number of pieces. Enter the number of pieces in a batch. The Weight and Volume values updates automatically.
Note: Direct editing of the Pieces field is enabled after you define a Piece Size. If Piece Size is undefined, the Pieces field is empty and disabled.

Batch Parameters

Option Description

Batch Size Floats

Select this option if you want the batch size to update as you change ingredient quantities.

When you select this option, you cannot change the Batch Size values, or the percentage values of ingredients.

Piece Size Floats

Select this option if you want the size of pieces to update as you change the per piece weights of ingredients.

When you select this option, the number of pieces in the batch changes when the piece size changes.

For more information about how this option works, see Formulas and Batches.

Batch Overage (%)

The percentage of excess that is added to batches to compensate for waste. (For example, some of a viscous liquid might stick to a vat when it is decanted into containers.)

This field is not editable when Batch Size Floats is selected.

Include Overage In Batch Size

If selected, the Batch Overage is included in calculation of the batch size.

This option is not editable when Batch Size Floats is selected.

Target Specific Gravity

The specific gravity of the formula, used in conversions between weight and volume. The default value is 1.000.

Nominal Concentration

The nominal concentration percentage.

Rescale Behavior

Select an option to specify how ingredient levels are rescaled when you change the batch size. These options are not available if Batch Size Floats is selected.

Option Description

Rescale Ingredient Weights

Select this option if you want the ingredient weights to rescale when you change the batch size. Formulation Design recalculates the ingredients' weights so that their ratio and percentages remain the same in the new batch size. This is the default rescale behavior.

Rescale Ingredient Percentages

Select this option if you want the ingredient percentages to rescale when you change the batch size. Formulation Design recalculates the ingredients' percentages so that their weights remain unchanged in the new batch size.
