Creating a Plate

You can create a plate by specifying the limits.


Before you begin: Open a root product containing the common geometry reference.

  1. From the Function section of the action bar, click Plate .
    The Plate dialog box appears.
  2. Under Material & Orientation,
    1. Select the required material from the list.

      If the Resources Catalog or the Resources Library resource is not set in Data Setup, you can click More... to search and select the material from database.

    2. Specify the thickness.
    3. Optional: Click to invert the material orientation.
    4. Select the required thickness offset option.
  3. Under Category & Name, select the required category for the plate from the Category list.

    Tips:
    • You can click More... to select the category defined in the dictionary in the Data Setup. If no dictionary is set in Data Setup, only the default category is available.
    • You can modify the category while editing the plate.

  4. Optional: Clear the Automatic check box and enter the required name in the Name box.

    Note: If a naming action rule is set in Rules Catalog or Rules Library in Data Setup, and the Automatic check box is selected, the structural object is named automatically according to naming action rule. For more information, see .

  5. Select a required support in the work area.

    Important: The selection must be compatible with the selected category. You can select multiple elements.

    The selected elements appear in the Support box. To view all support elements, click the button to display the elements list. You can remove or replace the selected support.
  6. Optional: Specify the required offset value for the support.

    • The offset value is applicable for planar supports only.
    • If you want to have a common offset value for multiple supports, ensure that the Common support offset check box is selected.
    • If you want to give an individual offset to each support, clear the Common support offset check box. Click the button. The element list appears displaying multiple supports. Enter the required offset value for each support.

  7. Click in the Limit area to specify the limits.
    The Limits Toolbox appears.
  8. Under Limits,
    1. Select one of the following Limit Detail options: Coarse, Intermediate, or Fine.
    2. Select the limiting elements.
      The Object column displays the selected limit. The Side column displays the orientation and the Limit Type column displays the default limit type.
    3. Optional: In the Normal Offset, specify the offset value normal to the limit.
    4. Optional: In the Offset column, specify the offset value along the support.
    5. Optional: Click to get the correct orientation.
    6. Optional: In the Limit Type list, select the limit type.

      The default limit type appears as per the selected limit.

    The selected limits appear in the dialog box. You can modify the limits by replacing or deleting them.
  9. Optional: To modify the limits:

    • Click to cancel the previously selected limit.
    • Click to replace a limiting element with another element. To do so, select a limiting element to be replaced, click , and select another limiting element from the work area.
    • Select the Select all check box to delete all the limits or apply same limit type.

  10. Click Apply.
    The inputs are applied.
  11. Click OK.
    The plate is created.
    The following image shows plates created with different categories. A denotes Shell, B denotes transverse bulkhead, C denotes longitudinal bulkhead whereas D denotes deck.

  12. Optional: To edit the plate, select the plate in the work area and click Plate on the context toolbar.
