Highlighting Instances from the Configuration Criteria

You can select all the instances in a product structure based on specific effectivity expression. Using this method of analysis, you can obtain results that exactly or partially match your criteria.


Before you begin: Open a configured product structure in Product Structure Design work area. For more information about opening, see Product Structure Design User Guide: Working with Products: Opening a Product.

Highlighting Instances with Different Effectivity
  1. From the standard area of the action bar, click Menu Bar.
    The context menu appears.
  2. To select the authoring context of your choice, select View > Toolbars > App Options.
    The App Options panel appears.
  3. Select the product of your choice and click Dynamic Selection of Instances in the Configuration Analysis area of the App Options panel.

    The Dynamic Config Analysis dialog box appears.

  4. Click Start Define.
    The Search for Model dialog box appears.
  5. To search for the desired model dictionaries, you can do one of the following:
    • In the box, enter your search criterion and click Search.
    • Click Advanced Search. For more information about Advanced Search, see Filtering with Advanced Search.
    A list of model dictionaries corresponding to your search criteria appears.
  6. Select the model dictionary of your choice and click OK.
    The Criteria area is populated with the selected model dictionary's configuration criteria.
    Tip: The configuration criteria type varies on the selection of the model dictionary.
  7. Select the AddPage tab to add more models for the analysis.
  8. To define the effectivity criteria and its expression, you can do one of the following:
    • Select one of the configuration criteria types from the available list.
    • Select one of the configuration contexts you want to inherit from.
  9. Select Select Instances with exact Same Effectivity and click OK.
    All the instances having the same effectivity expression are highlighted (in both the tree and in 3D).

  10. Select Select Instances with Compatible Effectivity and click OK
    All the instances that have intersecting effectivity expression on at least one model are highlighted (in both the tree and in 3D).
