Configuring Data Interactions with Variables

You can create String and Filter variables to share information between the Experience components. Once created, bind your variables with data queries.

Important: You can use the same variable in several data queries.

Add a New Variable

Before you begin: You have created a data perspective and switched to Edit mode.
  1. From the left panel, select Variable.
  2. Click Add a new variable.
    Parameters display in the central panel to let you configure the variable.
  3. Configure the variable parameters.
    1. In Name, enter the variable name. For example, myvar.
    2. For Type, select String or Filter.
    3. In Values, enter the variable default value.

Bind a Variable

Once you have defined variables, you have to bind them to a data query.

  1. From the left panel, select Variable.
  2. Select the Binding tab.
  3. From the top list, select a data query previously configured.
  4. Under Refinement, select the Search clause.

If you go back to the Variables tab, you see on which data queries the variable is bound under Used in data queries.

Delete a Variable

  1. From the left panel, click Data.
  2. Hover over a query, click and click Delete.
