Defining Execution Parameters Initial Conditions

You can modify the model parameters values that are used during a virtual execution.

Note that modifying these execution values do not modify the functional or logical model values, unless you apply a specific command. See Saving Initial Values in the Model for more information about that command.

The values of the model can be shown by the Parameter and Variable Editor.

Before you begin: Open the model to be simulated.

Use the Values from the Model Without Modifications

You can always simulate using the values from the functional or logical model without modifications, even if you have previously simulated the model with modified initial values.

From the Behavior Authoring section of the action bar, click Simulate

Tip: You can also access this command from any of:

The Simulation section of the action bar.
The Action Pad panel. To access the Action Pad panel, from the Tools section of the action bar, click Action Pad , or right-click an empty area and select Display > Action Pad.

The following is the result:

The model is simulated with unmodified values from the model
A new Variable Browser is displayed, with the status:
- The Variable Browser is active
- The Value column is displayed
- The Initial Value column is not displayed, by default

Tip: To display only the variables that you can change the default value for, you can, from the Variable Browser, expand More Filters, and then clear all alternatives except Tunable values.

Use the Values from the Model with Modifications

You can always use the values from the functional or logical model as a starting point for modifications to be used in the next simulation. This is the case even if you have previously simulated the model with modified initial values.

From the Simulation section of the action bar, click Parameters Initial Value .
A new Variable Browser for the model appears. The Initial Value column is displayed. The Value column is hidden, as no results have yet been computed.
Tip: To simulate the model with the default values, from the Variable Browser, under the header, click Refresh results from initial conditions .
Modify the initial values.
In the figure, the value of freqHz has been modified from 0.2 to 0.3 Hz.

To simulate with the modified initial values, from the Variable Browser, under the header, click Refresh results from initial conditions

The modified initial values are used in the simulation. After the simulation, the Value column is displayed in the Variable Browser, the Initial Value column is hidden.

Use Present Initial Values After Simulation with Modifications

You can always use the present values displayed in the Variable Browser after a simulation as a starting point for modifications of the initial values to be used for the next simulation.

Before you begin: If no previous simulation has been executed, see the tasks above.

If several Variable Browser are displayed, click the header of the convenient one to activate it.

Note: Each Variable Browser is a fully independent item, containing both initial conditions and the associated simulator for the model.

If the Initial Value column is not displayed in the Variable Browser, right-click Value column header and select Show Column > Initial Value to display that column.

Tip: To display only the variables that you can change the default value for, you can, from the Variable Browser, expand More Filters, and then clear all alternatives except Tunable values.

Both the Value and the Initial Value columns are displayed.

Modify the initial values. Below, the value of freqHz has been further modified from 0.3 to 0.4 Hz.
To simulate with the modified initial values, from the Variable Browser, under the header, click Refresh results from initial conditions .
The modified initial values are used in the simulation. After the simulation, both the Value and the Initial Value columns are displayed in the Variable Browser.

Use Cloned Initial Values in a New Variable Browser

You can clone the initial values from an existing Variable Browser to a new one.

To clone the initial values from an existing Variable Browser to a new one, use the command Import Initial Conditions.

A new Variable Browser is displayed. The initial values of the previous Variable Browser is cloned into this new one. The Values column is hidden, as no results have yet been computed.
The initial values can be modified. See Step 2 - Step 3 in Use the Values from the Model with Modifications.
