Importing Initial Conditions

You can import initial conditions from any open simulation result, from an external simulation result file (.mat), or from a simulation result stored in the database. This allows you to perform a new simulation from a given time point and with a computed initial state.

Import Initial Conditions from Any Open Simulation Result

You can import initial conditions from any open simulation result.

Before you begin: You have simulated a model a number of times and want to use the initial conditions from a previous simulation result that is still available in a Variable Browser.
  1. From the Simulation section of the action bar, click Import Initial Conditions .
    The Import Initial Conditions from Result dialog box appears.
  2. In the Import Initial Conditions from Result dialog box:
    1. Select the Result to import from box, then select a result from the Variable Browser corresponding to the result you want to use.
      The simulation result appears in the dialog box.
    2. In the Time point to consider box, define the start time to be considered by moving the slider or editing the box.
    3. Click OK to validate.
      A new Variable Browser displaying the import appears, with the Initial Values displayed, with change marks.
  3. Click Simulation Setup and open the General tab.
    Note that the Start time is the imported Time point to consider, and the Stop time is now the previous stop time plus the imported Time point to consider.
  4. Click Simulate to perform a simulation.
    The Variable Browser is updated.

Import Initial Conditions from an External Simulation Result File (.mat)

You can import initial conditions from an external simulation result file (.mat) or from any open execution result.

Before you begin:
  1. Activate Mechanics.Multibody.Examples.Elementary.DoublePendulum from the Modelica Standard Library.
  2. From the Simulation section of the action bar, click Import Initial Conditions .
    The Import Initial Conditions from Result dialog box appears.
  3. In the Import Initial Conditions from Result dialog box:
    1. Click Select a File .
      The Simulation Result File Selection dialog box appears to let you browse and select an external .mat file.

      For this scenario:

      1. Browse and select DoublePendulum_from0to10.mat.
      2. Click Open to display the file in the Result to import from box.

    2. In the Time point to consider box, define the start time to be considered by moving the slider or editing the box.

      In this scenario, leave the time as 10s.

    3. Click OK to validate.
      A new Variable Browser displaying the import appears, with the Initial Values displayed, with change marks.
  4. Click Simulation Setup and open the General tab.
    Note that the Start time is the imported Time point to consider, and the Stop time is now the previous stop time plus the imported Time point to consider.
  5. Click Simulate to perform a simulation.
    The Variable Browser is updated.
  6. In the same plotter, plot the same variable (revolute1.phi, for example)
    • From the Variable Browser of DoublePendulum
    • From the Variable Browser of DoublePendulum_from0to10
    Note that the simulation of DoublePendulum is the continuity of the DoublePendulum_From0to10 result.

Import Initial Conditions from a Simulation Result from the Database

You can import initial conditions from a simulation result stored in the database.

Before you begin:
  1. Activate Mechanics.Multibody.Examples.Elementary.DoublePendulum from the Modelica Standard Library.
  2. From the Simulation section of the action bar, click Import Initial Conditions .
    The Import Initial Conditions from Result dialog box appears.
  3. In the Import Initial Conditions from Result dialog box:
    1. Click Select a Document .
      The Content Chooser dialog box is displayed.
    2. Use the Content Chooser to select a simulation result using the Search box of the top bar.

      For more about the Content Chooser, see Selecting Objects Using the Content Chooser.

      Tip: Enter the name of the simulation result in the Search box and press Enter to search. The wildcard * can be used.

      For general information about search, see About 3DSearch Queries.

      For this scenario, search DoublePendulum_from0to10.

      The result appears in the Result to import from box.
    3. In the Time point to consider box, define the start time to be considered by moving the slider or editing the box.

      In this scenario, leave the time as 10s.

    4. Click OK to validate.
      A new Variable Browser displaying the import appears, with the Initial Values displayed, with change marks.
  4. Optional: Test the result by performing Step 4 - Step 6 in previous subtask.
