Analyze Delays in the Production Plan
You can use a specific color scheme to see at a glance whether the activities in the
plan are early, on time, or late.
-
From the Main View Settings section of the action bar (or Secondary View Settings, if the chart is in the
lower half of the widget window), click Work Order
Color.
-
From the list, select
Advance / Delay.
In the graph area of the chart, the colors of the operations reflect the advance /
delay of their work order. In the
Hierarchical Work Order Gantt Chart, the color of the icon
in each summary bar reflects the work order advance / delay. By default, operations
are:
- Red if the work order is late, and there is no way to
catch up with the delay; hex color: #df3a01. The work order calculated due
date is equal to, or earlier than, the current planning start date.
- Orange if the work order is more than 7 days late; hex
color: #e87b00. Its end date in the plan is later than its calculated due
date by more than 7 days.
- Yellow if the work order is 7 days late or less; hex
color: #d7df01.
- Light green if the end date of the work order is equal
to its calculated due date, or earlier by up to 7 days; hex color: #a9f5bc.
- Dark green if the work order is more than 7 days early;
hex color: #088a4b.
You can select another color scheme at any time, using the
Work Order Color flyout.
Analyze the Status of Work Orders
You can use a specific color scheme to show the status of work orders: launched,
scheduled, in progress, or closed. This information can be useful to understand the
current schedule.
-
From the Main View Settings section of the action bar (or Secondary View Settings, if the chart is in the
lower half of the widget window), click Work Order
Color.
-
From the list, select
Work Order Status.
In the graph area of the chart, operations change color to reflect the status of their
work order. In the Hierarchical Work Order Gantt Chart, the
color of the icon in each summary bar also changes accordingly. Colors are as
follows:
- Cyan is for launched work orders; hex color: #a6e7f3. The activity is available for
planning, but not scheduled yet.
- Light blue is for scheduled work orders; hex color: #80baca. The activity is in the
schedule, but has not started yet.
- Medium blue is for work orders in progress; hex color: #53879b. The activity is under way.
- Dark blue is for closed work orders; hex color: #2b566f. The activity is complete.
- Gray is for work orders whose status is unknown; hex color: #77797c. This is an anomaly.
You may want to report it to the persons in charge
of the schedule, or of the manufacturing execution system.
You can select another color scheme
at any time, using the Work Order Color flyout.
Monitor the Execution of Work Order Operations
You can get a good grasp of the progress of work orders based on
the execution status of their operations.
-
From the Main View Settings section of the action bar (or Secondary View Settings, if the chart is in the
lower half of the widget window), click Work Order
Color.
-
From the list, select Operation Execution Status.
In the Gantt chart, operations change color to reflect the execution stage they are at.
In the Hierarchical Work Order Gantt Chart, you need to expand
the summary bars to see that. For more information, see Monitor Resource Activity and Operation Execution. You can select another color scheme at any time, using the
Work Order Color flyout.
For a global view of where the operations of a work order stand in the
schedule of resources, use the Resource Gantt chart. For more information, see
Monitor the Schedule of a Work Order on Resources.
View Details on Work Orders
You can use the Details panel of the chart to view the
characteristics of work orders.
-
On the Gantt chart, locate a bar related to the work order to analyze.
This can be an operation bar or, in the Hierarchical Word Order
Gantt Chart, the summary bar of the work order.
-
If the Details panel is open already, click that
operation or summary bar. If the panel is not open, double-click the bar
instead. In both cases, the panel then displays the details on your new
selection.
Note:
If you are displaying two Gantt charts at a time in the
widget, clicking an operation in one highlights that same operation in
the other as well.
If you clicked a summary bar, you are now viewing the Work Order
Details panel, which shows only information on the selected work
order. If you clicked an operation bar, you are viewing the Operation
Details panel, and the information on the work order is in the top
section. The work order details are the same in both cases, and include:
- The status of the work order. This is the current stage in the work order
lifecycle: scheduled or in progress, for example.
- The work order earliest start date, as determined by
the planning constraints.
- The work order due date. This is the date when the work order must be
complete so that the process it is part of, or the sales order, for example,
is on time. This is not a calculated date. It is part of the input data on
the work order.
- The work order calculated due date. This is the latest
date when the work order can finish without delaying any of its linked work
orders. If the work order does not have links with other work orders, its
calculated due date is equal to its due date.
- The work order advance / delay as compared with its
calculated due date. Unless the work order is right on time or critically
late, there is a tooltip on that field, with the exact advance or delay
value.
- The item the work order is producing.
- The quantity to produce.
- The priority of the work order.
- The list of the work order dependencies, if any. This can include
predecessor and successor work orders. Predecessors have a link that targets
the current work order. They must be complete before the current work order
can start. Successors have a link that originates from the current work
order. They can start only when this work order is complete. Dependency
links are visible on the chart, but this list can be a useful complement to
the graphical representation.
- Other dates for the work order. These dates are readily visible in the
Work Order Details panel, and are under
More in the Operation
Details panel. The scheduled dates are the current start and
end dates of the work order in the plan. Execution dates are available only
when the work order is under way, or complete. The
target dates are the objectives for work order execution. They are
optional. When they are available, the panel shows whether the scheduled
end date of the work order is early or late with respect to its target
end date. The reference dates are available only if there is a reference
plan. This is a schedule that the planner saved as a reference in the
scheduling app, to later assess production plan performance. When these
dates are available, the panel shows whether the scheduled end date of
the work order is early or late with respect to its reference end date.
For both target and reference dates, unless the work order is right on
time or critically late, there is a tooltip on the advance / delay
value, with the exact figure. The value field uses the advance / delay
colors configured from the Display section of the
action bar. For more information, see Dialog Box for Editing Colors.
Clicking a bar from another work order updates the
Details panel accordingly. For more information, see
Gantt Chart Details Panel.
