Assigning Lasers

Using the Assign Optics command, you can assign lasers automatically or manually to parts or trajectories in a scan path.

This task shows you how to:


Before you begin:
  • Open a part with several regions defined.
  • Generate the scan path. For more information, see Generating a Scan Path.

Automatically Assign Lasers

You can assign lasers automatically to parts based on the location of the trajectories and the range of the lasers.

  1. In the Define and generate slicing and scan path panel, click Assign Optics .
  2. In the Assign Lasers panel that appears, select Assign Laser Automatically.

The laser is assigned according to the trajectories and the ranges of the laser. For more information, see Automatic Laser Assignment.

Manually Assign Lasers

You can manually assign lasers to positioned parts in the build tray.

  1. In the Define and generate slicing and scan path panel, click Assign Optics .
  2. In the Assign Optics panel that appears, select Initialize Assignment.
    Parts are assigned to the nearest laser.
  3. To modify a laser assignment, in the Select Parts and Assign Lasers panel that appears, select the parts to assign to a laser in the left Unassigned Parts box.
  4. Click the right arrow to assign the selected parts to the laser.
    The assigned parts are displayed in the right Laser box.
    Note: If the laser is unable to reach the part, it is displayed in red.
  5. Optional: To unassign a part, select the part and click the left arrow.
    The unassigned part is displayed in the left Unassigned Parts box.

Your selected parts are assigned to the laser.
