Source Object Content Lifecycles

A source object, that is, a document map, topic, image, data frame, or image frame, is processed by moving it through the maturity states in its lifecycle. The actions available depend on the maturity state of the source object.

In Work

Anyone with access can view the source object. Owners, Authors, Leaders, and Repository Managers can:

  • Edit or update the source object.
  • Lock or unlock the source object.
  • Delete the source object.
  • Render the overall document.
  • Promote the object to the Frozen state.

When you create a revision of a Released or Obsolete source object, it is automatically in the In Work maturity state.

Frozen

Anyone with access can view the source object. Owners, Authors, Leaders, and Repository Managers can:

  • Render the overall document.
  • Promote the source object to the Released state.
  • Demote the source object to the In Work state.

Released

Anyone with access can view the source object or render the overall document. Owners, Authors, Leaders, and Repository Managers can promote the source object to the Obsolete state.

When you promote a revision to Released, if a previous revision exists it is automatically promoted to Obsolete.

Obsolete

Anyone with access can view the source object. Owners, Leaders, Authors, and Repository Managers can:

  • Render the overall document.
  • Demote the source object to the Released state if this is the latest revision of the source object.
