Populating a Communication Matrix

You can create frames, events, PDUs, and bus signals to populate your communication matrices.


Before you begin: Create a communication matrix.

  1. From the Communications tab, expand the Matrices node.
  2. Right-click a matrix and select Create Frame .
    Note: You can change the title.

    A frame is created and appears under the matrix.

  3. Right-click the frame and select Create Cycle Event or Create Burst Event .
    Depending on the selected event:
    • Cycle event: Select a period and an offset.
    • Burst event: Select a repetition number and a repetition period.

    An event is created and appears under the frame.

  4. Right-click the frame and select Create PDU .
    Note: You can change the title.

    A PDU is created and appears under the frame.

  5. Right-click this PDU and select Create Bus Signal .

    Note: You can also create a bus signal on the PDU or on a communication matrix when you do not yet know how it passes through the bus.

  6. In the Create Bus Signal dialog box, do one of the following:

    • To create a bus signal and associate the PDU with a system signal, select Automatic system signal.

      A system signal associated with the bus signal is created simultaneously under the System Signals node.

    • To associate the PDU with an existing system signal, clear Automatic system signal and select a signal in the System signal box.

    A bus signal is created and appears under the PDU.

  7. Optional: To add attributes to the bus signal, right-click the bus signal and select Create Attribute or Create Attributes from Template .

    The attributes appear under the bus signal.
  8. Optional: To define a value for the bus signal, right-click the bus signal, select Create Signal Value , and enter a value.

Tip: You can copy and paste frames, PDUs, and bus signals, between communication matrices or within the same matrix.
