About Flat Cables

Sometimes electrical components must be inserted in difficult locations. Flat cable is often the best, and the only choice for electrical interconnections in many environments because it is lighter, thinner, more flexible, and has a longer life than other cable types.

Flat cable section properties can be defined while creating or editing segment connection point or cavity on devices. To create a flat cable, you need to route it on this segment connection point or cavity.

A branch can be considered as a flat cable when:

  • it is built in FLEX mode,
  • it has the same cross-section profile all along and at its start and end. When there are several segments, they must have the same profile and orientation at junction.

You can convert a normally routed branch into a flat cable and vice versa.

Profile Management is also available for flat cables and allows you to rotate them.

To consider the Profile properties for cable routing, select the Automatically impose profile properties from segment connection point or cavity check box in Me > Preferences > App Preferences > 3D Modeling The profile properties defined on the segment connection point or cavity will define the profile of the cable. If the Rectangular property is chosen, you obtain a flat cable.
