Inserting in Length Mode

You can create a protective covering and place it over a segment in Length mode.

The Length mode lets you specify a length for the protective covering and allows you to reposition one of its ends.

Note: In Length mode, you can select a segment end, protective covering end, support entry or exit point to position the start of the protective covering.

Before you begin: Open an electrical branch geometry.
  1. From the Protection section of the action bar, click Protective Covering .
The Instantiate Protective Covering dialog box appears.
  2. Under Selection mode, select From scratch.

Note: By default, this mode is selected.

  3. In the Type list, select one of the following types:
    • Fixed Diameter
    • Adaptive Diameter
    • Corrugated tube
    • Tape.

Note: You can apply a customized type to a protective covering. For more information, see Using a Customized Type for Protective Covering Created from Scratch.

  4. In the Thickness box, type a value or use the arrows to change the value.
  5. Click More >> to set other parameters.
According to the selected covering type, parameters are displayed:
    • Inner diameter: sets the diameter for fixed diameter protective coverings and corrugated tubes.
    • Bend radius: sets the bend radius for fixed diameter protective coverings and corrugated tubes.
Note: The bend radius is only used with the FLEX algorithm and is not taken into account when computing the segment using the standard algorithm. However, this parameter lets you create knowledge rules.
    • Width: sets the width for tapes.
    • Linear mass: sets the mass of protective coverings per meter.
    • Flexibility: sets the stiffness used when computing segments. For more information, see About the FLEX Algorithm.
    • Line Type: defines how coverings will be represented on drawings.
      Tips:
      • Select No line type to represent the covering in double line (projection) mode.
      • In Me > Preferences > Equipment > Electrical Discipline > Electrical 3D Design > Electrical Geometry Management tab, you can set a default line type in the Protective Covering Instantiation area.
  6. Under Placement mode, select Lenght.
  7. In the Length box, type a value or use the arrows to change the value.

Tip: Click Set as Preferred Length if you want to set the defined length as the preferred length for all the protective coverings to be created.

  8. To place a protective covering:
    1. In the work area, move your pointer over a segment to display each end of the segment.
A blue square appears. It represents the reference point from which a protective covering is placed.
    2. Click the segment to select a reference point.
      In the work area:
      • The protective covering is placed over the selected segment.
      • The length of the protective covering is indicated in a label.
      • The fixed end of the protective covering is highlighted in a red label. The free end is highlighted in a green label.
Tip: Right-click an end to change its status (Fix End or Free Extremity).

  9. To modify the position of the protective covering, do one of the following:
    • Drag the free end label of the protective covering (Start, in our example) along the center curve.
    • Double-click the distance label and, in the Parameter Definition dialog box, type a value in the Value box, and then click OK.

Note: The length of the protective covering remains the same.

  10. To edit the length of the protective covering, do one of the following:
    • In the Length box, type a value or use the arrows to change the value.
    • Double-click the length label and, in the Parameter definition dialog box, type a new value in the Value box, and then click OK.

Tip: Click Invert to flip the protective covering.

A new protective covering is inserted and appears under the Protection Set node in the tree.
