Generating Documents

You can generate documents for a Services Product, Services Item, or Services Project. The preview and generation of documents relies on templates created using Report Template Design.


Before you begin: View the properties page the Services Product , Services Item, or Services Project. For more information, see Opening a Services Product, Services Item Properties, or Opening a Services Project.
  1. Click Generate or Document Generation > Generate.
  2. Enter these details:

    FieldDescription
    Report TitleEnter any text to use as the title of the report.
    Report TemplateClick to search for and select a template. You can select any template that uses Product Configurations or Services Items as input.
    Output Format(s) Click to search for and select and output format. You can only select output formats defined by the selected report template.
    Use as Reference Document Only shows for Services Products or Services Items.

    Select the check box if you want the app to attach the generated document as a reference document for the Services Product or Services Item.

    Report LanguageClick to search for and select a language. You can only select a language if the selected template allows you to choose a language.
    Perform in BackgroundSelect the check box if you want the app to generate the documents in the background so you can continue to work.
    Send notification upon completion (if background is checked)Select the check box if you want the app to send you a notification when the documents, when generated in the background, is complete.
    Add to schedule as deliverableOnly shows for Services Projects.

    Click to search for and select a task, phase, or gate in the project. The generated document will be added as a deliverable to your selection.

    The search results only include tasks, phases, and gates that are not complete and that you have access to.

    Input shows the name of the Services Product, Services Item, or Services Project used as a filter for the selected report template.

  3. Click Done.

The generated document in the selected language is added to the Generated Documents list. For more information, see Generated Documents.

If you selected Perform in Background, the dialog box closes and you can continue working. When the report is complete, the app sends you an email message.
