Pasting Bookmarks in Different Ways

You can use Paste Special to paste copied or cut data (both objects and bookmarks) in different ways in the bookmark structure. It can be used in both the bookmark structure and the 3D representation in the work area.

This task shows you how to:

Before you begin: Paste Special will be available only when at least one copied or cut bookmark or object is available in the Clipboard.
Important:
  • Before using Paste Special on any reference or representation in Product Structure Design, you must save all the changes to it, otherwise, an error message appears.
  • You cannot use Paste Special on multiple bookmarks.

Perform Regular Paste

You can use Paste Special to perform a regular paste operation on bookmarks and objects with Paste Standard.

  1. From the expanded bookmark structure or 3D representation in the work area, select the bookmark in which you want to paste the copied or cut bookmark, using Paste Special.
  2. You can do either of the following:
    • Right-click the bookmark and click Paste Special .
    • Select the bookmark and click Paste Special in the Fixed section of the action bar.
    The Paste Special dialog box appears.
  3. Select Paste Standard and click OK.

The structure of the copied or cut bookmark, along with all its subbookmarks, is duplicated in the destination bookmark. It is visible in both the bookmark structure as well as the 3D representation in the work area.

Note: Any references and representations in the copied or cut bookmark are not duplicated, however they are visible in the new bookmark. The new bookmark and the original bookmark point to the same references and representations.

Paste Only The bookmark Structure

You can use Paste Special to paste only the structure of the copied or cut bookmark or object in the destination bookmark using Paste Structure only

  1. From the expanded bookmark structure or 3D representation in the work area, select the bookmark in which you want to paste the copied or cut bookmark, using Paste Special.
  2. You can do either of the following:
    • Right-click the bookmark and click Paste Special .
    • Select the bookmark and click Paste Special in the Fixed section of the action bar.
    The Paste Special dialog box appears.
  3. Select Paste Structure only and click OK.

The structure of the copied or cut bookmark, along with all its subbookmarks, is duplicated in the destination bookmark. It is visible in both the bookmark structure as well as the 3D representation in the work area.

Note: Any references and representations in the copied or cut bookmark are not duplicated.

Paste The bookmark Structure and Its Contents

You can use Paste Special to paste the entire bookmark structure, including references and representations in the destination bookmark using Paste with whole duplication.

  1. From the expanded bookmark structure or 3D representation in the work area, select the bookmark in which you want to paste the copied or cut bookmark, using Paste Special.
  2. You can do either of the following:
    • Right-click the bookmark and click Paste Special .
    • Select the bookmark and click Paste Special in the Fixed section of the action bar.
    The Paste Special dialog box appears.
  3. Select Paste with whole duplication and click OK.

The structure of the copied or cut bookmark, along with all its subbookmarks, is pasted in the destination bookmark. It is visible in both the bookmark structure as well as the 3D representation in the work area.

Note: Any references and representations in the copied or cut bookmark are not duplicated because their copies are inserted into the new bookmark. The duplicated objects that are part of the bookmark structure are named according to the convention established during setup that the Administrator can change.

Insert Objects Into bookmarks Using Paste Special

You can use Paste Special to paste objects in the destination bookmark using Paste standard and Paste with whole duplication

  1. From the expanded bookmark structure or 3D representation in the work area, select the bookmark in which you want to paste the copied or cut object, using Paste Special.
  2. You can do either of the following:
    • Right-click the bookmark and click Paste Special .
    • Select the bookmark and click Paste Special in the Fixed section of the action bar.
    The Paste Special dialog box appears.
  3. You can do either of the following
    • If you want to perform a regular paste operation, select Paste Standard.
    • If you want to duplicate all the references and representations related to the object, select Paste with whole duplication.
  4. Click OK.

The object is pasted according to the option selected in the destination bookmark. It is visible in both the bookmark structure as well as the 3D representation in the work area.
