Using 3D Tolerancing & Annotation with Design Range Management

The design range supports and manages certain 3D Tolerancing & Annotation features, preferences, and processes. For more information, see 3DEXPERIENCE Native Apps: Native Apps Advanced: Introducing Design Range Management.

This page discusses:

3D Tolerancing & Annotation Features

You can create and modify annotations, and construction geometries if they and their reference geometries are within the 3D shape representation bounding sphere.

The size of the annotation plane is according to the view ratio and the size of its annotations.

3D Tolerancing & Annotation Preferences

You can specify the default values of the following preferences:

Preference What it depends upon... For more information see...
All around overrun Range of representation. Customizable for each range. Limits
Default dimension line/geometry distance View ratio Dimension Creation
Default offset between dimensions View ratio Line-Up
Default tolerance values (for chamfer, and linear size) Range of representation. Customizable for each range. Chamfer Size, and Linear Size
Geometrical Tolerances Range of representation. Customizable for each range. Geometrical Tolerance
Extension line length View ratio Geometrical Tolerance
Handles, reference size View ratio Handles
Grid Range of representation. Customizable for each range. Grid
Paper grid View ratio Paper Grid
Annotation Set Ratio Range of representation. Customizable for each range. Tolerancing

3D Tolerancing & Annotation Processes

The following processes support the design range management:

  • Product data filtering with Engineering IP Control app: is supported for all ranges. The result data has the same range specifications as the source data.
  • Tolerance schema: is supported when the range specifications of source data matches with result data. In case of a mismatch, the schema related commands are unavailable in the Tolerancing Advisor.
  • Global copy and PowerCopy: are supported when the range specifications of source data matches with result data. In case of a mismatch, the source annotations fail to copy.
  • File-based Design Import and Database Design Import: are supported for all ranges. The resultant data is created according to the current default range specifications.
  • Note Object Attribute creation from a ditto, or from a catalog: is supported irrespective the range specifications of the 2D component drawing, catalog, and annotation set 3D Shape representation.
  • Drawing view creation from a 3D Tolerancing & Annotation view: is supported when the range specifications of the drawing and the 3D Tolerancing & Annotation view are compatible. If the ranges are not compatible, the view creation is failed.
