Working with a Tolerancing Schema

You can create a tolerancing schema of a user feature, store it in a catalog and use it when you require tolerancing user features.

Upgrade Reference User Features

You can upgrade the reference user features.

Upgrading the reference user feature is needed for automatic tolerancing of user features. The automatic tolerance creation of user features requires a complete mapping between the faces, edges and vertexes of the reference tolerancing schema and the user feature or technological result of user feature that is to be toleranced.

Before you begin: Create a user feature.
  1. From the Template section of the action bar, click User Feature Faces Identifiers Creation.

    To make the Template section available, ensure that you clear the Disable template creation check box under Annotation set, available in Me > Preferences > App Preferences > 3D Modeling > Mechanical Systems > 3D Tolerancing & Annotation > Administration section.

    The Upgrade report message appears confirming the upgrade and asking you to edit the user feature to update the internal components.

  2. Right-click the user feature and select UserFeatureX.object > Definition or double-click it in the tree to edit the user feature.

    The User Feature Definition dialog box appears.

  3. Click Change/Update Components.

    The User Feature Edition warning message appears asking you if you want to proceed.

  4. Click Yes in the message box.
  5. Click OK in the User Feature Definition dialog box.
  6. In the Top Bar, click Share > Save > Save All.
    The changes are saved and the user feature is upgraded.

Create a Catalog of the Tolerancing Schema

You can create a catalog of the tolerancing schema.

  1. In the top bar, position your pointer over Add , and select Add > Content in the list (or press Ctrl+N).
    The New Content dialog box appears.
  2. Select Catalog in the Types list.
    The catalog is created and opened in Design IP Classification.
  3. Select Me > Preferences > App Preferences > 3D Modeling > Mechanical Systems > 3D Tolerancing & Annotation > Tolerancing, and type the name of the created catalog in the Name box of Library of Tolerancing Schemas for User Features.
  4. Click OK.
    The catalog can now be used for definition of the tolerancing schemas. For more information, see Tolerancing.

Important: Following operations are not supported:
  • Pasting a semantic datum or semantic datum target feature created using ISO 5459:2011 in a level which does not support the same.
  • Instantiating a PowerCopy that contains semantic datum target feature or geometric tolerance with DRF feature created using ISO 5459:2011 in a level which does not support the same.
  • Applying a tolerance schema that contains either a datum target semantic feature, a semantic datum feature, or a DRF feature created using ISO 5459:2011 in a level which does not support the same.
  • Importing a tolerancing set that contains either a datum target semantic feature, a semantic datum feature, or a DRF feature created using ISO 5459:2011 in a level which does not support the same.

Create a Tolerancing Schema

You can create the tolerancing schema from an existing annotation set.

Before you begin: Instantiate a user feature in a body and create an annotation set.
  1. From the Template section of the action bar, click User Feature Tolerancing Schema Creation .
    On running this command one of the following messages is displayed depending on the schema creation status:
    • If the schema has been successfully created:

      Schema successfully created.

    • If already created schema has been modified and needs an update:

      Schema already created, is updated.

    • If already created schema has no change:

      Schema already created, remains unchanged.

    • If schema cannot be created as it does not follow the above listed rules. The failed rule is displayed as the message. For example:

      Some features are not linked to the user feature. User feature not completely upgraded.

  2. When the schema is successfully created or updated, click OK to add this schema in the catalog or the library.

    If the catalog or the library is already created then it is updated.
