Variant Management

Variant Management enables companies to manage the conceptual and commercial aspects of their model versions. System Engineers and Product Engineers can use it to define a portfolio of model versions and features with variability specified based on specific customer and market requirements.

Variant Management reduces model version diversity by defining a conceptual feature definition of a model version, which can be used as a framework for a diverse but modular platform.

  • Product configurations are created in the context of a model version or logical feature. The Product Configuration Comparison capability allows you to compare similarities and differences based on selected options across multiple product configurations, and to output the results in a report.
  • Logical features are usually multiple levels deep. When a design variant is added at the leaf level, it is rolled up to the higher level. Logical features can be copied between model versions. The Copy From and Copy To capabilities allow you to carry out these operations in a single window, without having to switch back and forth if the source or destination object needs to be changed.

Product Line Management is a required, shared component of Variant Management . Product Line Management provides the tools for managing product lines, models, model versions, portfolios, builds, and other associated objects. Its usage is described in the Product Line Management User's Guide.
