Creating a Logical Feature

System Engineers and Product Engineers can create stand-alone logical features that can then be used with any model, model version, or logical feature. They can also create the logical feature for a specific item such as a model or model version.

  1. Do one of the following:
    • To create a stand-alone logical feature that can be reused where needed:
      1. View the list of logical features. See Logical Features Page.
      2. If you want to create this feature as a sub feature of an existing item:
        1. Select the logical feature to be the parent of the new feature.
        2. Click Enable Edit .
      3. Click Create Logical Feature .

      Or:

      From the top bar, click Add > Variant Management > Create Logical Feature.

    • To create a logical feature in the context of a model version or logical feature:

      1. View the Logical Structures page for the needed model version or logical feature. See Logical View Tab on the Logical Structures Page.
      2. Select a model version or logical feature to be the parent of the new feature.

        If a logical feature has Leaf Level set to Yes, you cannot add another logical feature under it.

      3. From the page toolbar, click Create Logical Feature .
    • To create a logical feature in the context of a model:

      1. View the Logical Features page for the needed model. See Logical Features Page for a Model.
      2. From the page toolbar, click Create Logical Feature . You cannot create child features on this page.

      You cannot create a hierarchy of logical features for a model. That is, you cannot select a logical feature and the create a child logical feature for it.

  2. Enter these details:

    Field NameDescription
    NameThe automatically assigned name of the logical feature. To enter a custom name, clear the AutoName check box, then type the name.
    TypeThe default type is logical feature. Click if you want to select a subtype, such as Software Feature.
    RevThe default revision is originally based on the policy definition. You can change the revision value as needed.
    Display NameThe default text is the same name as the Name field. If you used AutoName to generate the name, you must enter a display name.
    Display TextEnter any text used for display purposes in a product configuration.
    DescriptionEnter a description.
    OwnerYour name is automatically entered. Click to select a different owner.
    Design ResponsibilityBy default, the design responsibility is the context organization for the logical feature. Click to assign the responsibility for designing for the logical feature.

    If you started this task from the context of a model, model version, or logical feature, this field shows the design responsibility defined for that object; otherwise, this field is blank.

    Collaborative SpaceSelect the collaborative space in which to create the logical feature.
    Part FamilyStart typing the part family name or click to select a part family to associate with the logical feature in the GBOM.
    PolicyThe default policy is logical feature object. You can only change the policy if your company created custom policies.

  3. Click Apply to create the logical feature and continue creating features, or click OK.
  4. If you enabled Edit mode prior to creating the logical feature, make any edits on the row for the new logical feature, then click Save.
