Erasing Faces and Edges

You can erase either faces or edges. Closed surfaces become open surfaces.


Before you begin: Create a 3D shape containing a subdivision surface.

Accessing Transformation Commands
  1. From the Shape Sculpt section of the action bar, click Erasing .

    You can also access this command by pressing ALT+SHIFT+E.

  2. Select the subdivision surface.
  3. From the Tools Palette, click Face Erasing (it is selected by default).
  4. Click the faces to erase.


  5. Press Ctrl to select several elements to erase.
  6. Release the pointer when you are satisfied with the new shape of the surface.
  7. Click Apply (Enter) .


    Tip: You can press Ctrl to select several surfaces to be erased before validating the command.
  8. From the Tools Palette, click Edge Erasing .
  9. Click the edge to erase.


    The erasing propagates to the connected edges:



  10. Release the pointer when you are satisfied with the new shape of the surface.
