Tracing and Sweeping

You can generate two-dimensional and three-dimensional geometries based on an animation of a mechanism.

  • A geometric trace is a 3D shape that represents the path traveled by a point or a curve over the course of a kinematics simulation.
  • A swept volume is a body representing the total space occupied by a mechanism part over the course of the simulation.
Traces and swept volumes can be used in the design process to model complementary components, such as cams or housings that conform to the motion of your mechanism.
