Detecting Clashes and Contacts during Preview

During preview of a kinematics simulation, you can highlight clashing parts and contacting parts in the mechanism, or you can stop the animation when two parts clash.

Before you begin: Open a kinematics simulation referencing a mechanism in the Mechanical Systems Experience app. app, and an interference probe must be defined and included in the scenario. The system does not detect contacts when one of the 3DParts involved in the contact is hidden.

  1. In the App Options, select options to determine how clashes and contact between parts in the mechanism are handled during the preview:
    • On: Highlights contacting parts and clashing parts during the preview of the kinematics simulation.
    • Stop: Stops the animation when two parts are in contact or in clash.

Note: The Clash Detection setting applies to any interference probe included in the kinematics scenario. For more information, see Defining Interference Probes.

  2. Select the scenario you want to preview in the tree.
  3. Click Preview.
    The Simulation Player appears.
  4. Use the controls on the Simulation Player or the Compass to animate your mechanism or to step through the time increments in your simulation.

For more information on the Simulation Player, see the Simulation Experience User's Guide: Players.
