Allocating a Logical Component to the End of a Pathway

You can allocate Logical Components to the end of a pathway segment.

Note: Logical Components do not necessarily have associated shapes.


Before you begin: Open the logical description (2D graph) of your system, but the 3D view also helps you visualize the commands.

  1. Select a Pathway Segment. The Edit Pathway and 3D Allocation commands appear in a context toolbar:


  2. Click 3D Allocation .
  3. In the 3D view, select a pathway segment.

    The 3D Allocation dialog box is displayed.

    A red marker appears at one end of the pathway segment to indicate the point to which the Logical Component will be allocated. The name of the pathway segment appears in the 3D Allocation dialog box.

  4. In the 2D graph, select one or more Logical Components.

    You can only select a component that is not already allocated to the pathway segment.

    If a 3D shape is associated to the Logical Component, a dotted line appears between the shape and the end of the pathway segment. If a 3D shape is not associated to the Logical Component, a blue dotted line appears at the end of the pathway segment.

  5. Select one of the allocated Logical Components to see the highlight between this component and the end of a pathway segment.
    You can see that the Logical Component is highlighted as well as the dotted line between this component and the end of the pathway segment:

  6. Optional: Click the pathway segment again to move the red marker to the other end of the pathway segment.

    The name of the Logical Component appears under Associated Logical Objects in the 3D Allocation dialog box.

    Note: When you select a component in the dialog box list, it removes the component from the list and removes the allocation of the component to the end of the pathway segment.
  7. Optional: To add more Logical Components to the end of the pathway segment, select each one in turn and it will be added to the list in the dialog box.
  8. When finished, click Close to exit the command.

Tip: If you select an allocated Logical Component in the tree or in the 2D graph, the allocated point is highlighted by a colored dot in the 3D view.
