Creating a 2D Component Reference

You can create a 2D component reference in a detail sheet and later instantiate this 2D component in the design sheet.

Differentiating the design sheet from the detail sheet lets you assign a structure to the representation, so that the layout elements are separated from the re-usable components.

Before you begin: Create an empty layout as explained in Creating a Layout.

  1. In the tree, right-click the Layout node and select New Detail Sheet.

The detail sheet is created, with a 2D component view at its lower left-hand corner. It is listed in the tree. Meanwhile, the Change Sheet Name dialog box is displayed.

Tip: You can add a new detail sheet after this one, either by repeating the above step, or by right-clicking the newly-created detail sheet in the tree, and selecting New Detail Sheet.
  2. Specify a name for the sheet and click OK, or click Cancel to keep the default name.
If you changed it, the sheet's name is updated in the tree.
  3. To create a 2D component reference, create a 2D geometry inside the 2D component view.

You can now instantiate this 2D component on a layout design sheet.

  4. From the Template section of the action bar, click 2D Component to create additional 2D component references.
  5. Click anywhere in the detail sheet to position the new 2D component view.
  6. Create geometry inside this view.
  7. Repeat steps 4 to 6 to create more numbers of 2D component references.
You can then instantiate them on a layout design sheet.
