Traceability Matrix

A matrix shows traceability of documents to other documents or to requirements in a design project. Requirement to document traceability is available only if the Traceable Requirements Management app is installed. Traceability is performed on elements in the design output, design verification, and hazards.

Traceability is unique to a design project. The traceability established in the context of one design project will not be displayed under other design projects. For example, the same requirement may be in design input bookmarks for two different design projects, but if a document for the requirement is made traceable to one of the design projects, it will not be traceable in the other design project, even though they share the same requirement.

You can use the Relate Requirement command on the tabs for Design Output, Design Verification, or Hazards to select these elements and relate them to child requirements in the Traceability Matrix tab and therefore create traceability of the elements. See Design Output, Design Verification, and Hazard Details.

To view design input, design output, and design verification elements in their respective bookmarks, click Bookmarks in the navigation pane. The Bookmarks category also has tabs for viewing Design Changes, Product DHF, and product hazards.

To access this page:

  1. From the Design Projects tab, click a design project name.
  2. In the navigation pane for the design project, click Traceability.

NameDescription

Design Input

Name

The name of the design input object. The root node is the design project. Expand the bookmark to show any documents and requirements.

Title

The title of the design input object.

Type

The type of design input object, for example, Requirement or Document.

Relationship

The relationship of the design input object within the structure

Rev

The revision of the requirement or document object.
ProjectsThe design projects related to a requirement or document. Displays when viewing traceability from the Design History File category for a product.
Design ChangesAll change objects (for example, engineering changes and change orders) associated to design input elements which are associated to requirement or document objects. Multiple change objects are shown on separate lines.
HazardsA hazard related to the requirement or document. For information about hazards, see Hazard Details.

Design Output

Title (Section)

The title of a design output element related to the requirement or document. Multiple documents associated to the same design output element are shown on separate lines. If there is no traceability associated for design output elements to documents or requirements, the cells in this section have a red background.

Click to edit section information for a design output element. You must be the owner or a Project Member of the context Design Project to access this icon. You must have modify access on the Requirement/Document object to perform an edit.

Click to remove the traceability mapping. You must have disconnect access on the Requirement/Document objects to be able to remove them.

indicates that the document is associated with one or more related parts. Hover over the icon to see the names of the related parts. Multiple related parts are shown as comma-separated.

indicates the document is not associated to any part.

For information about design output elements, see Design Output.

Related PartsThe related parts for the design output elements. Multiple related parts are shown on separate lines.
Design ChangesAny design changes associated to design output elements which are associated to corresponding documents and requirements. Multiple change objects are shown on separate lines. For information about design changes, see Design Changes.

Design Verification

Title (Section)

The title of the design verification element. Multiple documents associated to the same design verification element are shown on separate lines. If there is no traceability associated for design verification elements to documents or requirements, the cells in this section have a red background.

Click to edit section information for a design verification element. You must be the owner or a Project Member of the Design Project context to access this icon. You must have modify access on the Requirement/Document object to perform an edit.

Click to remove the traceability mapping. You must have disconnect access on the Requirement/Document objects to be able to remove them.

For information about design verification elements, see Design Verification.
