Creating a Camera

You can create and manage cameras through dedicated panels.


Before you begin:
  • Cameras are created in a relative coordinate system, which means that it is relative to its container: viewpoints stored in cameras are kept consistent when creating multiple instances, or when moving instances.
  • Cameras created before the implementation of the Manage Camera command are considered as being in an absolute coordinate system to ensure a consistent behavior.

  1. From the Live Rendering section of the action bar, select Manage Camera (or press CTRL+ALT+C).
    The Edit Camera and Cameras panel open to let you modify camera parameters and manage the cameras you create.
  2. In the Edit Camera panel, click Create Camera .

    Cameras can be created both in part or product context. Depending on the UI-active object, the camera is created under a:

    • root product
    • product instance
    • 3D Part instance
    • part representation.

    A camera appears in the 3D and in the tree.

    Important: By default, the camera is hidden. To make it visible, right-click it in the tree, select Hide/Show, and then click the camera symbol in the 3D area.



    A new camera thumbnail is also added to the Cameras panel.

  3. To change the position and the focal length of the camera, click the camera in the 3D area, and then use the two spheres and the two squares displayed in green.


  4. To rename a camera, enter the new name in the Name box in the Edit Camera panel.
    Important: "Current View" cannot be renamed.
  5. To create additional cameras, either click Create Camera in the Edit Camera panel, or use the Create Camera contextual command from the Cameras panel.
  6. Use the Cameras panel to manage and play cameras through contextual commands.
