Creating an MCO

This topic describes how to manually create an MCO. Though the system generally automatically generates an MCO, an MCO Coordinator can manually create an MCO for manufacturing-initiated changes like adding or removing manufacturing parts from an MBOM and making make/buy code changes.

A new MCO can also be created when copying an MCO. See Copying an MCO.

Before you begin: Creating an MCO requires an existing plant that is assigned Manufacturing Responsibility. The plant must have a person assigned as an MCO Coordinator in a lead role. You must belong to that plant. See Plants Page.

  1. From the top bar, click > Manufacturing > Create MCO.

    Enter the following information. For fields that contain an ellipsis icon (), see About Searches.

    AttributeDescription
    DescriptionEnter concise details that describe the new MCO. Enter any alphanumeric characters (numbers, letters, or allowed symbols).
    PolicyAll new MCOs use the MCO (Standard) policy, which uses routes to move the MCO through its lifecycle. The MCO is automatically promoted or demoted by the approval route as soon as requirements are met. Notification about updates made to the MCO is automatically sent to members on the distribution list.
    Start DateClick to select an implementation date for the changes released by the MCO. By default, the start date will be set to infinity.
    Target Start DateClick to select an anticipated target start date for the MCO. By default, the target start date is blank.
    Manufacturing ResponsibilityClick to search for a manufacturing plant to assign as the manufacturing responsibility for the new MCO. The search results show plants that you belong to that have MCO Coordinator as the lead role. See About Manufacturing Responsibility.
    Note: A message appears if you choose a plant that lacks an MCO Coordinator lead role. Click OK to choose again.
    Distribution ListClick to assign a list of people to which any messages about the MCO are routed. Search for and select any active member list.

    This field is available prior to Review state for the MCO (Standard) policy.

    Approval ListClick to choose an approval route template, which will be used in the MCO Review state to assign an approval route. Search for and select any active route template.

    This field is available when using the MCO (Standard) policy only.

    Responsible Manufacturing EngineerClick to assign a person to specify changes for the MCO. Search results include persons who have the following roles: Senior Manufacturing Engineer, Manufacturing Engineer, or VPLMCreator
    Responsible Senior Manufacturing EngineerClick to assign a person to review the MCO. Search results include persons who have the following roles: Senior Manufacturing Engineer or Manufacturing Engineer, or VPLMProjectLeader

  2. Click Done.
