Lead and Parallel Plants
In a centralized manufacturing engineering setup, responsible manufacturing plants are classified as lead or parallel plants. The lead plant assignment can be used as a reference if a manufacturing engineer decides to copy an MBOM from one plant to another instead of creating an MBOM for each plant based on the common EBOM definition and modifying each plant’s MBOM by implementing local MBOM changes for each plant individually. This technique works well if there are a number of plants that have similar process and resources where the MBOM from the lead plant can be copied and reused in other parallel plants. Only one plant can be the lead plant, while many plants can be parallel plants for a part.
