A manufacturing plant must be set up in Manufacturing BOM Management before MBOMs can be defined for the plant. See Manufacturing BOM Management Administrator's Guide:Configuring Manufacturing Plants.

A lead plant and many parallel plants can be assigned to a part.

When a part is released or revised by a CA, the system automatically creates MBOMs and MCOs for the assigned plants.

A part can be inactivated / activated in a plant.

The implementation of a CA can be bypassed in a plant.

Corporate plants and WIP plants are installed as part of the application. These plants are system plants and cannot be deleted. Corporate plants are used for lead plant management. WIP plants are used for WIP MBOM generation.
