Instantiating Resources from a Catalog

You can instantiate resources with a catalog, and you can specify a snap option from the catalog to facilitate placement.

This task shows you how to:

Before you begin: To use the catalogs, you must have access to a library. Possible sources of libraries include:
  • A device library
  • Standard Robot Library or another custom-developed robot library
  • Parametric catalogs provided with this product.

Instantiate a Catalog Resource

You can instantiate resources from a catalog. When you are instantiating a template, you create a new reference.

  1. Click Open Catalog .
    The Catalog Browser appears.

    The list of manufacturer names of the resources appears.

  2. Select More....
    The Object Selection dialog box appears. See also Inserting Resources Using the Catalog Browser.
  3. Search and open the Resource Catalog.
  4. Select chapter resource Items in the tree.
    The templates and item reference are loaded. By default, multiusage is switched off.
  5. Select the first template to instantiate in the 3D Viewer.
    The template is instantiated under the active node. Select a place on which the object needs to be positioned and place it.
  6. You can follow the same steps above for the Item References.
  7. Select Multiusage.
    The option is enabled.
  8. Select the second template to instantiate in the 3D Viewer.
    The templates are instantiated in the active node.
  9. Select a place to position the object.
    The instance of the same template is selected and instantiated under the same active node. Another template reference is instantiated under the same active node. Press Esc to stop the iteration. The last instantiated object is deleted.

Notes:
  • The active object is the parent for the aggregation of instantiated object.
  • Repeat or Multiusage mode enables you to place the multiple instances of item reference and multiple references of templates without selecting the item in the catalog. Press Esc end repeated insertions.

Instantiate Catalog Snap Option

You can snap during catalog instantiation.

  1. Select Me > Preferences> Factory Layout > General tab and choose Advanced Snap option.
  2. Select Catalog Instantiation and choose the fence (resource) to instantiate.
    The instantiated instance and the Advanced Snap context toolbar appear.

  3. Select snap by connector mode.
    The robot is snapped to the connector port on the instantiated object. This option is only available when you select the catalog instantiation with advanced snap option and the instantiated object has connector port.
  4. Pause the mouse on another resource with connector port.
    A Blue representation appears as a target connector port.
  5. Click the target connector port to snap.
    The connector snaps the representation.
