Checking Out an Item from 3DEXPERIENCE

You can open a CAD object stored in 3DEXPERIENCE in Connector for Cadence OrCAD. The Open from 3DEXPERIENCE dialog box provides several tabs that help you quickly find the CAD object that you want to open.

This task shows you how to:


Before you begin: From the Cadence OrCAD menu, select 3DEXPERIENCE > Open from 3DEXPERIENCE.

Use the General Search Tab

You can use General Search to enter criteria to find CAD objects.

  1. Enter search criteria. For more information, see Searching for Documents.
  2. Click Search.
  3. To change the table view for the search results, select a table from the View list and . The app updates the results list using the selected table.
  4. Define the check out details:

    Criteria Description
    Type Click to select the required type of document.
    Name Enter the name of the design, or use the (*) wildcard character.
    Case Sensitive Select the check box to enforce a case-sensitive search. Clear the check box to allow a case-insensitive search.
    Revision Enter a revision level, or use the (*) wildcard character.
    Latest Revision Select the check box to restrict the results to only the latest revision of a design.
    Owner Click to select a person. The search restricts the results to designs owned by that person.

    You can use the Search for Persons dialog box to choose from a list of persons, or enter criteria to find the required person based on these attributes.

    Attribute Description
    User Name Enter one, a comma-separated list of user names, or the (*) wildcard.
    Last Name Enter one user name or the (*) wildcard.
    First Name Enter one user name or the (*) wildcard.
    Organization Enter one, a comma-separated list of organizations, or the (*) wildcard.

    Vault Click to select the design's storage vault.
    State Click to select lifecycle states to limit the results to designs in the selected states.
    Search Limit Enter an integer to limit the results to that number of documents.

  5. If you want to check out a specific iteration of a CAD object, right-click the object and select Show Iterations.

    The CAD Model Iterations dialog box lists the iterations of a CAD object. You can define check out details as described in Step 4.

  6. Right-click the CAD object you want and select Open.

    The Connector for Cadence OrCAD checks out the CAD object and all related CAD objects of the selection to the specified directory. The Connector for Cadence OrCAD checks out the archive of the CAD object is checked out, extracts it, and deletes the local archive files.

    You can also select Open Selected to check out only the selected object and not its hierarchy.

    If the selected CAD object is already present in the checkout directory, the system provides these choices:

    • Overwrite the existing data.
    • Select a new checkout directory.

    You can select or clear the remember check box to use the same choice for data in the current session.

Use the My Documents Tab

You can use the My Documents tab to restrict your search to those CAD objects that you own.

  1. Click the My Documents tab.
  2. Enter any text in the Filter for object name box.

    This text is not case sensitive.

  3. Click Search.
  4. Define check out details as described in 4 above.
  5. Open the required document as described in 6 above.

Use the My Workspaces Tab

You can use the My Workspaces tab to restrict the search to CAD objects in workspaces that you have access to.

  1. Click the My Workspaces tab.
  2. Enter text in the Filter for workspace name box.
  3. If you want to restrict the workspace search to the workspaces that you own, select the Direct Assignments only check box.
  4. Click Search.
    The app loads the workspaces that match the search criteria.
  5. Expand the workspace and folder hierarchies to locate the required CAD object.

Use the My Projects Tab

You can use the My Projects tab to restrict the search to projects that you own.

  1. Click the My Projects tab.
  2. Enter text in the Filter for project name box.

    You can use wildcards in the text name.

  3. If you want to restrict the project search to the projects that you own, select the Direct Assignments only check box.
    This option does not find projects that you are a member of but do not own.
  4. Click Search.
    The app loads projects that match the search criteria.
  5. Expand the project hierarchies to locate the required CAD object.
  6. Define check out details as described in Use the General Search Tab above.
  7. Open the required document as described in Use the General Search Tab above.

Use the My Recently Accessed Objects Tab

You can use the My Recently Accessed Objects tab to quickly find CAD objects based on the date of access.

  1. Click the My Recently Accessed Objects tab.
  2. Choose an option to select when objects were last accessed:

    • All: retrieves objects accessed in the last 60 days.
    • Recently Accessed (Today): retrieves objects you access today.
    • Since: retrieves objects accessed during the shown number of days. Click the up or down arrow to increase or decrease the number of days.

  3. Click Search.
    The app loads CAD objects that match the search criteria.
  4. Define check out details as described in Use the General Search Tab above.
  5. Open the required document as described in Use the General Search Tab above.

Use the My Locked Objects Tab

You can use the My Locked Objects tab to search for objects that are locked by you.

  1. Click the My Locked Objects tab.
  2. Click Search.
    The app loads CAD objects that you have locked.
  3. Define check out details as described in above.
  4. Open the required document as described in above.
