Setting up the Pack Simulation

The pack step is an optional part of the simulation that follows the fill step and evaluates the material freezing process in the cavity. The default values for the pack step settings are suitable for most simulations, but you can adjust any of these process parameters to customize the way that the molten material freezes over the course of your plastic injection analysis.

  1. From the Setup section of the action bar, click Process Settings .
  2. Expand the Plastic flow simulations section and then the Pack simulation section.
  3. For thermoset materials, choose a Reaction control type to specify the stopping condition for the Fill/Pack simulation.
    OptionDescription
Conversion Stops the Fill/Pack simulation when the plastic in the cavity has cured to the threshold specified in Reactive eject conversion (%) field.
Time Stops the Fill/Pack simulation at a specified time.
  4. Optional: Modify the Pack switch point by entering the percentage of filled cavity volume at which the pack stage should begin. For example, enter 98 to begin the Pack stage when the cavity is 98% full.
  5. Optional: Customize the pack pressure profile.

By default, the molten polymer is packed into the remaining cavity at a constant pressure. You can modify this behavior by selecting or defining a pack pressure profile that specifies the pack pressure over time. Click to define a new profile, or click to customize the currently selected profile

  6. Optional: Modify the Cool time, which is the time between the end of packing and the opening of the mold.
  7. Click OK.
