Creating a Model

Product Managers and System Engineers can define new models for any product line they own. Creating a model does not create the initial model version associated with that model.

    Field Name Description
Name Type the name of the new model or select Autoname to have the system to assign a name automatically to this model.
Type Click to search for and select the model type. By default, the type is model.
Product Line Click to search for and select the parent product line for this model.

If you are creating a model for a product line, this field is read-only and shows that product line name.

Model Prefix Type the model prefix to be inherited by all products and product configurations created under the model. Use alphanumeric characters. The prefix is case-insensitive: all letters are converted to uppercase and stored.

When Unit BOM Management is installed, the model prefix field is mandatory and must be unique. The prefix must be unique to ensure that the short form notation of the model version can uniquely represent the model version for other downstream processes.

Marketing Name By default this field is populated with the same value as you typed in the Name field. If you opted to autoname the model, you must type a marketing name.
Marketing Text Type the marketing text of the new model.
Description Type a detailed description of the model.
Owner Click to search for and assign an owner. By default, the person who creates the model is its owner, but you can choose another person.
Design Responsibility Click to search for and assign the design responsibility for the model to a different organization or project. By default, the design responsibility is the context organization for the model.

If no design responsibility is defined, the model is accessible by all Product Managers and System Engineers in the company. If you select an organization that you do not belong to, you will not be able to access the new model once it is created.

The design responsibility must be assigned before the product line reaches the Released state.

Collaborative Space Select the collaborative space in which to create the model.
Policy Select the policy that governs the model's lifecycle. By default, only the Model policy shows in the list. If your company defined additional policies, select one from the list.
