Inserting a Derived Model Version

You only see the Insert Before command if derivation mode is enabled. You can insert a model version between two existing model versions. The inserted model version has the same derivation type as the original child model version.

See Inserting Derivations Into the Revision/Derivation Chain for background details. If you use the Defect Management and Collaboration, see Defect Management and Collaboration User's Guide: Inserting a Branch.

Before you begin: Open the Model Versions page for the required model version revision. See Model Versions Tab.
  1. Select the model version you want the inserted model version to precede. You cannot select the main model version in the evolution list, or a frozen model version.

For example, if you have Revision A and Revision B, select Revision B.

Important: Inserting a model version is irreversible. Once done, you cannot delete or remove that inserted model version. You can only remove or delete a model version at the end of a revision or derivation chain.

  2. From the toolbar, select Actions > Insert Before.
  3. Edit these details (the derivation details cannot be changed):

    Field Name Description
Name Initially shows the name of the selected model version. Edit if required.
Marketing Name Enter the marketing name for the derived model version.
    Revision Enter a revision.
Description Enter details about the derived model version.
Marketing Text Enter text to describe the marketing purpose of the derivation.
Policy If your company implemented subpolicies, select the policy from the list.

  4. Click Done.
A message displays notifying you that the insertion is irreversible.
  5. Click OK.
