Playing the Experience in Desktop Mode

After creating the different variants of a product and configuring the presentation mode for Play, you can play the experience in desktop mode. This lets you present the variants you have authored, for discussion and decision-making purposes, for example.

In the presentation mode, you cannot make changes to the experience, but you can still capture viewpoints and stages on the fly (see step 4 below).

Before you begin:
  1. From the Compass, click Play .
  2. Optional: If you hide variant panels, variant lines, and variants, a message appears, informing you that some objects are hidden in Play mode. Select the dedicated check box if you no longer want to see this message, and click OK.
The panels appear in the presentation mode.
  3. You can perform either of the following operations:
    • Click a trigger object, or press a trigger hotkey, to activate the variant associated with it.
Note: Trigger objects are highlighted using different colors to be identified easily. The pointer changes to a hand when hovering over them.
    • Click the different variants to switch from one variant to another manually.
Note: In the case of a position variant containing a kinematics animation, the animation starts playing automatically when the variant is activated. You can use Back, Stop, Play, and Forward to control the animation.

    • Click Play (available on each variant line) to activate a slide show mode, and thus switch from one variant to another automatically (beginning with the active variant). During play, Pause is available to interrupt the slide show.

  4. Optional: To create viewpoints and stage variants, click the following commands in the Presentation section of the action bar:
    OptionDescription
Capture Viewpoint Variant Captures the current viewpoint in a new variant, that will be available after leaving the Presentation (Play) mode.
Capture Stage Variant Captures the current stage in a new variant, that will be available after leaving the Presentation (Play) mode.
After you leave the presentation mode, viewpoints and stage variants are available in the Presentation sessions panel. You can keep this panel as is, or if you prefer, you can drag variant thumbnails to other lines or panels. You can also drag entire variant lines to other panels.
Tip: Press Ctrl while dragging to copy the thumbnails and lines instead of moving them.
  5. Optional: To mark all active variants as favorites, in the Presentation section of the action bar, click Mark All Active Variants as Favorites .

For more information, see Validating Variants and Managing Favorites.

  6. To display products as if showcased on a turntable, click Turntable Controller .

A controller appears for the turntable.

    CommandDescription
Play backward /Play forward Rotates the turntable counterclockwise / clockwise.
Stop Stops the ongoing rotation and resets to 0 degrees.
    Pause Pauses the ongoing rotation.
Step backward / Step forward Rotates the turntable for the equivalent of 1 second of continuous rotation counterclockwise / clockwise.
Current Angle (°)Specifies how many degrees are rotated, relative to the original orientation.
Speed (°/s)Specifies how many angular degrees are rotated every second, or, in other words, determines the angular speed of the rotation.
AxisSpecifies the axis (X, Y, or Z) around which the turntable rotates.
  7. To exit the presentation mode, click Play  again.
