Designing by Specification Driven

You can perform all the basic design such as placing parts and parametric parts using only one command based on the specifications.

This task shows you how to:

Before you begin:
  • Open a product containing trays or cableways.
  • Make sure that specifications have been properly created and contain the tables and part filters needed.

Launch the Specification Driven Assisted Design Command

You can perform several options one after the other using the Specification Driven Assisted Design command.

  1. Select a product in the tree or select objects in the 3D area using the Selection Options.
    All the objects in this product are selected. If you select a product which contains routes from different disciplines, the Discipline dialog box appears to let you choose the discipline in which you want to perform. The different disciplines are: Electrical (cableway network), Piping/Tubing, HVAC and Raceway.

  2. From the Fluid Design section of the action bar, click Specification Driven Assisted Design .
  3. From the Automatic Design Options dialog box, select one or more of the following options you want to perform:
    Notes:
    • The options are displayed in the dialog box if they can be performed in the design. If multiple options are selected, all respective dialog boxes for each option are displayed one after another, except for the branch and the bend. If these two options are selected, the Bend and Branch Part Placement dialog box is displayed, containing the references for both options.
    • When you select a line in the table, the corresponding object in the work area is highlighted.
    • There are three instantiation rule values with a specific behavior each:
      • If the Instantiation Rule value is Reuse, a new instance is created from the reference.
      • If the Instantiation Rule value is Reuse or New Reference, there are two different cases:
        • If the part is a cut elbow, a specific rule is applied. For more information, see or Cut Elbow Instantiation.
        • For other objects, the behavior is the same as Reuse. To duplicate the object, you can use the Clone and Replace command.
      • If the Instantiation Rule value is New reference, the reference is duplicated before being instantiated.
    • The Specification Driven Assisted Design command allows you to create trays on cableways but no link is created between the objects. If you change the references or the geometry of the cableways, the trays are not updated. For more information, see Routing a Tray on a Cableway.
    • If the association cache between cableways and trays is up-to-date, the Specification Driven Assisted Design command does not regenerate trays on cableways. A message is displayed in the Automatic Design Options dialog box to let you know if the cache is empty or to be updated. In both cases, you need to run the Compute Relation between Cableway and Tray command. For more information, see Computing Associations between Cableways and Trays.

Create Trays

This option is displayed only if you have selected a cableway and the creation of the tray is mandatory.

  1. Select Create Tray in the Automatic Design Options dialog box and click OK.
    The Tray Creation dialog box appears and lists all the segments for which a tray will be created. The status column shows a color code as listed below:
    • Blue: no reference is selected.
    • Green: only one reference can be placed. The reference is automatically selected.
    • Yellow: more than one reference can be placed. The table browser appears and you have to choose the reference of your choice. This value is applied to the other references having the same cableway attributes such as height, width and specification. The status color becomes green when you have selected a reference.
    • Red: no reference has been found. You have to select None in the list and no reference will be placed.
  2. In the Tray Reference column, select a reference in the list.
    Note: You can click Select to display the table that lists the available references. To reduce the number of the available references, you can filter the results on the column of your choice.
  3. Optional: Click the white arrows displayed on segment groups to change the orientation or select a value in the Orientation column.
    Note: You can choose to create trays with the same orientation as the cableway or as the default Z axis by selecting the appropriate option in Me > Preferences> App Preferences > 3D Modeling > Fluid Systems > > General > Select orientation for tray. By default, the trays are created in the same orientation as the cableway.
  4. Click OK.
    The trays are created.
    Note: You can filter tray references by choosing a percentage of the height and width of the cableway or having the closest value to the cableway dimensions in Me > Preferences> App Preferences > 3D Modeling > Fluid Systems > > General > Raceway height and width filter.
  5. Click OK to validate and go to the next step, or click Cancel to stop the current action.

Manage Junction

You can apply the appropriate technology on junctions. There are five different technologies: InHeaderCompo, OnSurfaceCompo, STUB-IN, STUB-ON, and SET-ON.

  1. Select Manage Junction in the Automatic Design Options dialog box and click OK.
    The Branch Part Placement dialog box appears and lists branches on which you can apply a technology. The Status column shows a color code as listed below:
    • Green: only one reference can be placed. The reference is automatically selected.
    • Yellow: more than one reference can be placed. The table browser appears and you have to choose the reference of your choice. This value is applied to the other references having the same attributes. The status color becomes green.
    • Red: no reference has been found. You have to select None in the list and no reference will be placed.
  2. In the Technology column, select the technology of your choice.
    Parts are filtered using the Branch Rule table and the list of available references is updated.
    Note: The Technology column corresponds to the Branch Case column in the Branch Rule table.
  3. In the Reference column, select a reference in the list.
    Note: You can click Select to display the table that lists the available references. To reduce the number of the available references, you can filter the results on the column of your choice.
  4. Click OK to validate and go to the next step, or click Cancel to stop the current action.
    If you click Cancel, only the current action is stopped. The previous actions are kept.

Manage Bend

You can place elbows on bends.

  1. Select Manage Bend in the Automatic Design Options dialog box and click OK.
    The Bend Part Placement dialog box appears and lists the bends on which you can place an elbow. The status column shows a color code as listed below:
    • Green: only one reference can be placed. The reference is automatically selected.
    • Yellow: more than one reference can be placed. The table browser appears and you have to choose the reference of your choice. This value is applied to the other references having the same attributes. The status color becomes green.
    • Red: no reference has been found. You have to select None in the list and no reference will be placed.
  2. In the Technology column, select a physical part subtype if you want to place a part on the bend or select Bend if you want no part on the bend.
    Parts are filtered using the Turn Rule table and the list of available references is updated. If you select Bend, the geometry remains the same.
    Note: The Technology column corresponds to the Physical Part Subtype column in the Turn Rule table.
  3. In the Reference column, click a reference in the list.
    Note: You can click Select to display the table that lists the available references. To reduce the number of the available references, you can filter the results on the column of your choice.
  4. Click OK to validate and go to the next step, or click Cancel to stop the current action.
    If you click Cancel, only the current action is stopped. The previous actions are kept.

Manage Junction with Different Size

You can place a reducer on two connected route ends having a different size.

  1. Select Manage Junction with different size (Reducer rule table) in the Automatic Design Options dialog box and click OK.
    The Reducer Part Placement dialog box appears and lists the junctions on which you can place a reducer. The status column shows a color code as listed below:
    • Green: only one reference can be placed. The reference is automatically selected.
    • Yellow: more than one reference can be placed. The table browser appears and you have to choose the reference of your choice. This value is applied to the other references having the same attributes. The status color becomes green.
    • Red: no reference has been found. You have to select None in the list and no reference will be placed.
  2. In the Reference column, click a reference in the list.
    Note: You can click Select to display the table that lists the available references. To reduce the number of the available references, you can filter the results on the column of your choice.
  3. Click OK to validate and go to the next step, or click Cancel to stop the current action.
    If you click Cancel, only the current action is stopped. The previous actions are kept.

Manage Auto Part

You can place auto parts.

  1. Select Manage Auto Part in the Automatic Design Options dialog box and click OK.
    The Auto Part Placement dialog box appears and lists the parts on which an auto part placement is necessary, and their respective ports. In the Auto Part Rule column, the list of the rules is retrieved from the Auto Part table and filtered by the end style of the two ports.
  2. In the Auto Part Rule column, select a rule.
    The list of available references and auto part names are updated.
  3. Click OK.
    Auto parts are placed one after another.
  4. Click OK to validate and go to the next step, or click Cancel to stop the current action.
    If you click Cancel, only the current action is stopped. The previous actions are kept.
Important: You can now specify if the rule is:
  • Single: the rule is accessible in manual mode only.
  • Multiple: the rule is accessible in manual and SDAD mode.
